The whole supermarket 'special offers' thing is a big joke they overprice things so that reductions look bigger. In reality things are probably worth less than the special offer price! You have my sympathy that you cannot shop around, unfortunately these massive corporations have a virtual monopoly on prices and have crushed other retailers.

Indeed, notice how you'll be tempted by half-price strawberries (now that they are in season and not imported)!

You need to know your prices these days to be a savvy shopper!

    Hi,

I agree completely. I have shopped at Asda for years and have only really just started to check my receipts and the amount of times they have over charged me is disgusting!
I buy sweetners most times when I do my monthly shop. the ones I normally buy (sweetex) have been advertised on the shelves at £1, so as usual I bought them. When I got home and checked my receipt I had been charged £1.68 for them. So how many packs of these sweetners have they sold for being advertised as only £1, and no one has picked up on the fact that they have been ripped off by 68p. I know this doesn't sound a lot of money, but on average I have been ripped off up to £1-£2 several times a month, times this by how many people each day use my local Asda, this equals a hell of a lot of profit!!! I have written to them about this last week, as I received my bank statement only to discover I have been charge twice for the same shopping, twice in the same month!!! A bunch of thieves if you ask me!

They get away with this constantly as people do not check their receipts, and if they do they are normall at home and so cannot be bothered to go back for the sake of 68p, or the fact it costs more than this in petrol or bus fares to actually go back, so Asda keep on getting away with it.

I have shopped at Asda for years, but I am now taking my business elsewhere and although I do know this won't make a jot of difference to Asda's profits, I will know 'm not being ripped off which makes me feel a little better.

Well done for remembering the price on the shelf, just imagine how many have passed you by without realising.

An Asda colleague did once tell me that most of the time once a product has been on offer, once the offer has ended it will cost more than the original price. (That makes sense in my head  )
  • Yes have to agree with you as well. They also have a habit of putting them up before they go on offer.
I noticed a product new to the shelves months ago, in the Indian section. It was really cheap at 78p this continued for weeks, then it went up to £1.76!!!!!!!!!!! Then after a few weeks they put it on a roll back to it's original price.

More & more recently I've noticed that sainsburys is cheaper & better quality, Asda's food isn't as good as it used to be.

I don't shop at ASDA, well maybe once per year. But I have noticed in Morrisons that when ever they have a special offer the product never goes back up to the original price it was selling for before the offer.

As an example, packs of beer went on offer at 3 for £18. The posters said that equals £6 per pack, normally £12 per pack. But after the offer they only went up to £9 per pack.

And for the life of me, I can't remember ever seeing them for £12 per pack. And similar packs are, and always have been sold for £7.99 to £9.99 per pack. Making £9 per pack about right for the normal price.

This happened to my mother last week and she rang HO and they said it had happened a lot and are "aware of the issue". There shouldn't be such an "issue" if it's a fault with their card machines they should be taking them out of use pronto IMO.

Sorry to be slightly off topic there.

I haven't noticed any roll forwards in particular as i'm a bit of a shopping tart and flit between Morrisons, Asda and Tesco, but i do try and keep an eye on my receipts.

It's all a big con they have found a way around those stupid adverts saying how many "rollbacks" they have and it works, but it's a scam.

I definitely keep an eye on my receipts - every time they make a mistake I get the bonus of a £2 gift card :T

Thank you for your email. Enjoy your next shop.
I am sorry that the price of Bertolli spread went up by 23.5%. That must have been disappointing.
Inasmuch as we would like to keep our prices low. Prices are bound to increase from time to time owing to increases in prices from the manufacturer or packaging.
Thanks for bringing this matter to our attention.
    Regards,

That's what happens when you farm out your customer service to a South African call centre (although it's a marginal improvement on Tesco's choice of Dundee as a location for its customer service HQ).
