I used to pay £4.40 for a 500g jar but tonight it is £5.09
Anybody have any idea why?
Yes, in order to raise enough money to pay of the national debt, the new muppets in charge have increased the tax on alcohol and all related products. This includes products made from waste left over from the brewing process.0 -
I eat tons of Marmite too, and check the prices a lot ready to pounce. Lately the smaller jars have been cheaper than the big one per gram. I've never seen a bogof on Marmite
still £4.40 in Sainsbury, £4.39 Ocado0 -

Hmmm, at £5.03 in Tesco and Asda I wonder if those two supermarkets are preparing for a special offer? That usually seems to be the way it works, put the price up then reduce it to make it sound like an even better offer.0 -
but you have said they were on offer
now they must not be
i dont really understand what you are saying/asking
lots of places had things like this one for the start of the world cup
maybe its just gone back to its original price now0 -
morrison £4.40 this morning .
I'm in the trade and can say there is no supplier cost increase so far this year .. and their rsp is unchanged at £4.80
so yes does look as some "super" promotion is going to happen !.0 -
Just get Yeast Extract. It's the same thing but without the advertising.

Most people buy Marmite only a few times a year and therefore the cost isn't noticed by most consumers. Similar products are jam, marmalade, cleaning fluids etc.
As a result regular increases are applied then once a year there's a huge 'Rollback' or similar prmotion which make the product appear cheaper.
Remember too that all that cheap beer stacked in the aisles has to be paid for and these products are good for covering those costs as are fresh veg etc.0 -

They don't seem to sell this in my Tesco anymore - very annoying.
