It actually WASNT, If you look at the OP and also my first post on that thread it was about whether value items are disappearing???What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
I went shopping on Saturday at Sainsburys and saw that the beer was ridiculously cheap because of the World Cup Football. Now I realise that this is common across all the big supermarkets but prices have definately gone up across the board.
I'd rather they put booze up and left food at reasonable prices because alcohol does not feature as a regular item on my shopping list. (It does feature once in a while like xmas and birthdays just not every week!!)
My shopping list however is extremely varied from week to week and is only used as a guide because I'm more likely to write "5 Dinners" and tend to shop and eat from the specials on offer even if we end up eating something three times in one week.
Added to which we are practically on the point of becoming vegetarians because meat in general is so expensive!!

why didnt Hippeechiq go to another shop or fruit/veg shop they sell often singular. Sometimes shops sells out it happens all time
I agree, that 'sometimes shops sell out' but there was no empty space for single toms or apples in store and no 'out of stock' signs either. As I said, after I couldn't get the items I needed in Te$scos, I did go to another shop. An independent green grocer and was charged 99p for 2 tomatoes and an apple, my other choice was M&S, and we all know they'd have cost an arm and a leg in there. I was also on foot, and felt 45 minutes was more than enough time to spend traipsing around for something my local supermarket should have in stock in the first place! Why do you say Te$co and not Tesco?
Because I was under the impression we weren't supposed to post company names? - I may be barking up the wrong tree though, either that, or barking madI take it that they use the dollar sign because Tesco make so much profit.Aug11 £193.29/£240

I don't think this necessarily means they have stopped stocking the loose products.
When I worked in tesco if they ran out of any product, including fruit and veg, they would fill the space with something else until they got more stock.
As the manager used to say "Nobody ever buys anything from an empty shelf, if you haven't got the product for the shelf, put something else on it"
"Out of Stock" signs weren't even allowed in the store. The policy was "You never advertise the fact that you are out of something" If someone asked then you could say something like "They will be in tomorrow" or "We are expecting delivery very soon". But you didn't put a sign up saying out of stock.
The theory was, someone might come in just for that one product. If they see a sign saying "out of stock" they will turn round and walk out. If the space where that product usually is, is filled with something else, then they will wander round looking for the product they came in for. While they are wandering round they may pick up something else, and once they have done that they are "in shopping mode". They have to queue at the checkout to pay for that one thing, so why not look around and pick up a few other things and make the trip worth while.0 -
I can relate to that way of Supermarket thinking - makes complete business sense, although I don't think all stores can have the same policy as there are often 'sorry, this item is temporarily out of stock' tickets on the shelves of my local Te$cosAug11 £193.29/£240

I meant any company (not just supermarkets) - regardless of whether the poster is praising or criticising. But as I said, I may have got my wires crossedAug11 £193.29/£240

That is true, but every time you type the word "tesco" into a forum they see it as advertising/publicity for them. Search engines, including google will look at the number of times a word is mentioned on each page and rank it accordingly.
Some people may not want to give tesco free publicity/advertising. In this case you may think it is negative advertising/publicity, but as they say "the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about".0
