It's still game playing though (i.e. unnecessarily fanning the flames) isn't it? I would have said "I'm sorry you feel I've abused your hospitality, but I don't agree" and then end the relationship. If she doesn't feel she owes them for the hospitality (and I don't think that she should feel that way) then why send the postal order? It then puts them in a position of either having to respond or not and keeps the whole game going on some more.0
