Ryanair and Aer Lingus are the only two I can think of and are pretty similar.

That's not easy when your hold luggage is also limited to 15kg! Or travelling with a baby (all that stuff you have to carry with you!).
If you are going away for two weeks, 15kg is really not enough.
I often take my laptop with me when I travel too. Has to go in hand luggage and would take most of the weight allowance for hand luggage (in RyanAir's case anyway).
RyanAir likes to advertise itself as a budget airline but it's whole system is set up to add on as many charges as possible. When you compare what you get as 'standard' with another airline, after all the charges RyanAir would apply for the same, RyanAir can often end up more expensive!
The same can often happen with EasyJet too, but to a lesser extent (20kg for hold luggage and no limit on hand luggage).February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

I've said before, the hand luggage was slightly underweight. It was 9.3kg when weighed with two seperate sets of scales in the house prior to the airport. If she'd have carried the bag up with her when she placed the hold luggage on, chances are Ryanair would have wanted to weigh the bag. If they did (and I've read loads of stories of it happenning) their usual trick of adding an extra kilo to their sets of scales to sting someone for a £40 charge, then it's unfair.
Ryanair also (if their not too late at the gate) like to weigh hand luggage. If it'd happened here then not much you can do really. I fly every three weeks so I know exactly what they are like, they'll get money from you in any possible way.
That said, if the daughter was uncomfortable with holding it, then considering she is an adult she should have just said so instead of running off to her Mum at the first chance. I'm sure OH at the slightest sense of her being uncomfortable would have taken the bag from her.0 -
As I've said before, their reaction imo is over the top. I agree she should have said she did not want to hold it, or, having agreed to do so, just shut up about it.
I agree other airlines are often cheaper than Ryanair after all the extras have been added on. Ryanair advertise 'cheap flights' and that is precisely what you get. If you want to take any luggage, book in at the airport, reserve a seat or pay by credit card, they whack the charges on.
I think they just want walk-on passengers with no luggage. Or, make money out of those that do have luggage.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Or these English rellies have a screw lose. My money's on the lose screw
Totally agree!
If that is really all its about, then they are proably going to go off it about something else trivial in the future.

I'm not involved at all. I haven't spoken to anyone about it other than MSE, and to OH when I heard about it.
One of my duties to OH is to listen and be there for them when she needs me. And I was struggling for the right advice to give and so asked here.0 -

Update:
After two unsuccessful attempts to contact the daughter. My OH finally gets through to her. And this is along the lines of wait she said- That the barrier wouldn't raise when she left the car park and she thought she was being arrested for holding the bag
- That OH had put her and her parents in an impossible position
- That OH is there for free accomodation and lifts (and I can honestly assure you it's not the case!)
- And that her apology wasn't sincere enough!

Is she a moron? That OH had put her and her parents in an impossible position
What on EARTH is she talking about? That OH is there for free accomodation and lifts
That may or may not be the case but it's hardly relevantAnd that her apology wasn't sincere enough!
SHE SHOULDNT HAVE TO APOLOGISE.
Seriously, these people are not coherent or have no idea of the real world. Maybe you should just show them this thread,0 -
I was almost laughing out loud when I heard the update - it's just so ridiculous. Esp the bit about the barrier not lifting in the car park! However - it's not funny - I can imagine it's caused your OH some distress. What sad silly people. Hope your OH can move on and put the incident behind her0
