I've tried to update my second account and I get the following message:
Sorry we are unable to progress with your request
    space.gifspace.gifspace.gif

139144 - Account Upgrade : Your account already provides you with the very best benefits and savings available from Lloyds TSB on a range of banking and other services.
Click on any of the left hand menus to continue.

Does anyone else get this error message? When I tried to update my first current account I was receiving this message and their telephone banking people made out it was a temporary glitch which they had become aware of that week and didn't know why it was affecting some accounts. That was in July and I'm still getting the same message!

I got exactly the same with each of mine, one was an existing Classic Plus, and the others I opened specifically to have the Vantage account. You can either go into your branch and the staff there will do it for you, or there's a phone number in the letter they will have sent you which you can phone to get the account 'upgraded'. All a bit of a pain really, but eventually it works.

    Hi everyone,

I can see that a lot of people have Vantage accounts as the interest is higher than normal savings account:eek:. I was wondering, how safe it is to keep 7k in your current account? I know that debit card fraud is more common then other type of accounts fraud. So how do you keep your money safe???
  • It should be difficult for card fraud to happen if you never use the debit card (so I don't). Alternatively you can request not to receive a debit card with the Vantage account at all.

Don't use your debit card for shopping, don't use it for withdrawing cash from ATM, don't write cheque for anyone, don't register the online banking. Then you will be safer if that bothers you.

True, but when you had Lloyds account for years, it's hard not to use it now.

What is better to do when your only account is Vantage and from time to time you use it???

But what if you already did that? I was wondering if it's better to open another one and the existing one to be used for withdrawing money (when is needed) ?

If I open a new one, it will be linked with the existing online banking, right :(?

I would want to keep money in Vantage but I feel that is not safe.

PS: SilentMinority and Johnmoney05 thanks for replying and for the advice.

This unfortunately doesn't seem to work as I requested no card with the two accounts I opened recently, yet got a debit card/PIN/cheque book for both. :( Not a major issue but would have prefered not to have them. Will just destroy them or hide them somewhere safe.

I just tried to open a third account in my local branch as the web site wouldn't let me and I was told that they were now limiting these to 2 per customer.

Interesting - the online T&C's state you can have 3 accounts with Vantage still. Maybe the branch staff were being awkward. I suggest giving them a call to open account 3.

If they are, they have not updated the website which still states that three is the maximum.

I phoned them this morning and the third account was opened in a few minutes! Thanks for the suggestion.
