Well I finally managed to get a couple of hours in the garden yesterday evening planting my toms. All bank holiday and 2 hours is all I get. I so wanted to get in there today to plant out a few of my flowers but I guess I will have to wait. Rain rain rain, I guess it is nice to get some.0

Am I alone in wondering where the slugs and snails are ? Usually my hostas are crawling with them and I have to resort to the slug pellets but this year I have seen very few of the pests

They are all in my garden!! They have completely wiped out my squash, ridge cucumber and courgette plants. I have been trying out sluglady barriers to little effect. I replanted my veg bed yesterday and have resorted to slug pellets to keep the little blightes away.Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -
Slugs and especially snails are a plenty in my garden too but they seem to be picky and nibble bits but the plants are surviving. Apart from half of the marigolds that I planted. I look yesturday and just two days after planting out half of them had been eaten. At least I still have another couple of tray fulls to plant out so they can be replaced. I went on another bug hunt to fight back last night and picked a larger pot full again. All either babies or really fat ones. At least someone is enjoying the veg I guess.0

I hadn`t seen any at all until 3 days ago and now the garden is crawling with them
My poor plants are wondering whats hit them.
I`ve even found some in the greenhouse munching on my peppers
Think that it will be torch time at night now to try and get rid of as many as possible.
My bizzy lizzies arrived yesterday, they looked a little worse for wear as i suspect they have been dalayed by RM. Have put them on the garden table to recover. I was wondering whether to plant them yesterday but decided that it was just too hot and now we have all the rain which would have wiped out the weeny things.
Maybe tomorrow but it depends on the weather, if i don`t get them out soon i shall have to repot them, all 84
On a good note a couple of my tomato plants have flowers on them and my early spuds are looking dead so they must be ready, they never flowered though and i was a bit worried but it seems that not all earlies do so i shall wait and see what surprises lie beneath the soil
One of my courgettes is ready for repotting and i have managed to get the beetroot and chard seedings mixed up so i`m not sure where to plant them now :rotfl:
We have eaten all the first radishes and salad leaves and more are started off but arn`t ready yet, my herbs are going great and the strawberries and raspberries are floweringI love my garden
I`ve taken to sitting out some nights as it goes dark - lovely & very relaxing.

My advice Sunnyday if you have new plants that are slightly distressed due to being in post etc is to water lightly and then again later so it soaks in and place in a slightly sheltered place out of direct sun for a day or two so they can recover
I spend most evenings in garden taking cuttings, watering and potting around, much better than watching some of the crap on tv. Of course I do record odd program to watch later0 -
Strange, I thought it must have been the bad winter killed the slugs off but it looks like they are just avoiding me..Mmm I have friends like that :rotfl:"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Thanks Savemoney,
i took your advice and they have recovered well over the last couple of days, i`ve just been out in the rain and planted all of them so they should be fine now. They look a lot better.
I`ve just managed to dry off as its raining heavily and the postman has just been with my hardy fuchias  i`m not going out in this weather again today so they will have to wait until tomorrow or the day after.
I shall unpack them shortly and pop them outside or in the greenhouse.

Lovely day again. Pulled my first early potatoes today, two plants and got enough new pots to eat for lunch. with surplus. I planted cabbages called Autumn Giant and they are huge so just took some of the leaves of to eat, leaving the rest to grow and that was nice too.
I think I am going to have far too many cabbages with the size they are growing to.
Great to eat the things you grow yourself"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."
