I'm not trying tomatos this year - complete disaster last year and a waste of my emotional energy! Had a lovely day yesterday just pottering and enjoying the garden rather than working hard - hoorah!0

Optimist - that's the garden centre I was talking about,
blimey they seem to have gone down in price. I get most of my plants from there. They are really good quality and a great price too and the people that own it are lovely. Have you met their pet cockerel called Jarvis? My little boy always has to go and find him when we go there

Hello
I've just come in for a sit down. Can't believe the time. I started at 7:30 rotavating and digging up the side bedding to put some chicken manure in with sifted soil and a bit of compost. It was 1:30 when I came in so 6 hours at it (that went fast). It's been ok as I've been working down just fast enough to stay in the shade as the sun comes around. Just a couple of feet to go. Oh well I've had an hours rest / play with DD, so I guess I should finish it off. All that side of the garden will be ready to plant in then.
So jobs still to be done for the start of the proper summer are -
Dig out a huge reed bush and split into 4.
Then I can finish digging out and rotavate in manure/sieved soil/compost for the rest of the other side (about a quarter to go.
Dig out the bottom to extend the lawn for a little play area with a dug out sand pit for DD.
Dig in edging arout the borders.
After that I will tidy up the front a little.
Weed patio.
Stain outdoor furniture.
Make another gate for the end of the fence.
So not much really0 -
I have become too complacent!! I planted a few bedding plants this morning which I got from Ripon market on Thursday. Then I had a wander round pleased at how everything was growing and secretly gloating. Then, horror, I took a closer look at my Goosberry bush and there lurking in the midst are the eggs of the dreaded Goosberry sawfly!!! A few have already hatched and the tiny larvae are already munching on the leaves. I have picked off all the infested leaves and am now roaming around on the net for the best spray to buy!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. Have took the plunge & potted on & put outside 5 of my chilli plants today (have been hardening them off for a couple of weeks) was encouraged by a thread on here where people have started too, hope i'm not too early as my books say June for them going out but they where starting to be pot bound.
Got 5 more different chillis & 5 peppers to do tomorrow also because i have run out of compost! Hope this nice weather is here to stay now, well as long as Jack Frost doesn't return & should be ok.0 -
