"The Sky network covers 28% of households in cities such as London, Birmingham Manchester Edinburgh and Glasgow although a fast rollout is expected with a 70% target by the end of 2007."

You should be able to check availability today at

  • I've registered my interest. They say my exchange should be enabled by Christmas so I won't rush to sign up for Sky TV just yet.

Seems to be a tiered service for SKY customers only :

Entry : £40 connection fee (includes wireless router)
    2GB speed (up to ...)
2GB dowload limit per month (not sure if capped or not)
    No monhtly fee

Mid : £20 connection fee (includes wireless router)
    8GB speed (up to ...)
40GB dowload limit per month (not sure if capped or not)
    £5 per month

High : no connection fee (includes wireless router)
    16GB speed (up to ...)
no dowload limit per month (not sure if capped or not)
    £10 per month

"Conenct" : for areas not covered by LLU this is a standard £17 per month offering.

All subject to agreeing a 12 month contract

I was dead keen on the mid option - but my exchange is obvioulsy not going to be unbundles anytime soon as I was only offerred "Connect"

I have registered but can only get the connect service. It seems OK at £17 per monthfor a 40GB cap, but I don't like the idea of the £40 activation fee with a free £50 wireless router ! I don't need another router and would rather have the thing installed for free !

So all in all not as good an announcement as it would appear - a bit like the Talk Talk free broadband offer I think !
    To infinity and beyond!

Well I've pre-registered. I'm in Glasgow so my exchange is already enabled - if you're in any of the big cities it shouldn't be a problem apparently but outside of that it might be a bit of a wait. Fingers crossed it gets up and running smoothly!

How did you find out when your exchange would be enabled?

When I 'register my interest' I get 'You can get Sky Broadband Connect'.

I assume that means I'd have to wait until (more likely if - it's very small) Sky get around to LLU-ing my exchange.

It appears to be £40 connection and then £17/month for 2mb - so 99p cheaper than BT (wow). Even if they drop the £40 connection charge, there's no chance of me being interested.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

What do you mean by (not sure if capped or not)

i.e. if you are on the 2GB service what happens when you download over 2 GB ?
    Do they charge extra ?
Do they simply stop the service and/or constrict the throughput ?

I have not read the T&Cs in detail yet ...
