You can't use your own router and have to use the supplied pre-configured SKY router (which is a modified Netgear DG834GT)...unless you are prepared to try a workaround and flash the firmware from SKY's to Netgears allowing the password to be revealed. This site has saved me a fortune :money: ...it's also cost me a fortune!

I havent got Sky BB at the moment.. wanted to know if someone uses VPN on Sky BB any problems faced??0
-
To answer the previous question, VPN link works (mine does anyway)
The problem is, its about all that does! There are some bedding in problems at sky, see the following link for full details (my problem is towards the end.)

In short, some key websites will not work in sme cases. Examples include MSN, any microsoft thing (like money for example), myspace , CNN and countless others. So, unless you want limited website access, don't touch it with a barge pole.
The good news for VPN users is that if you go through VPN it all works. This is cos that bypasses skys IP servers.
Skys tech support leaves a lot to be desired as well.
Am going to stick it out and see how long I can get the max package for free on account of the service being pants!0 -
If anyone is interested, you can e-mail easynet ( enquiries@easynet.com ), give them your exchange name and code (found at http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php ) and they will tell you roughly when your exchange is due to be unbundled (easynet being the ones responsible for the Sky Broadband LLU network).
I received my e-mail off Sky last week stating that my exchange wouldn't be enabled for a few months, and offering "Connect" instead. But after several hours on hold on a premium rate number over several days (I tried the 0800 but they couldn't help) I've given up. Easynet have told me that my exchange will be enabled February next year, so I'll probably just wait for that, assuming I can cope with plusnet's fun and games in the meantime!0 -
I was told installation would be on the 19th September , nothing turned up. after a phone call to Sky earlier today they dont have any record of my order!!! Not happy bunny!0

I registered for Sky broadband and subsequently received an e-mail saying that it was now available for me.... The usual half-hour or so of hanging on waiting to speak to someone and finally got to pay my £40 sign-up. Was advised to contact current provider for a MAC code and then simply phone back.... THREE DAYS LATER STILL CAN'T GET THROUGH TO PASS ON THE NUMBER !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Spoke to Sky Customer Services who advised me not to phone anymore, just send an e-mail with the MAC number. What a good idea! - what could possibly be simpler for all? THREE DAYS OF E-MAILS AND STILL HAVE NO ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is there anyone out there who has actually gone on-line with Sky? I deliberately decided to wait for Sky broadband having heard of all the nightmares others have experienced with TalkTalk.
Anyone have any constructive ideas other than pulling the plug?
I'M BEGINNING TO THINK THIS WHOLE THING IS JUST AN ADVERTISING PLOY.
By the way, Sky Customer Services will not take the number from you - OH NO!!!!! you have to speak to someone in the MAC code department!!!!!!!!!0 -
I'm sure I've seen elsewhere that someone actually managed to e-mail a complaint to Sky that they couldn't get through on the phone lines and they got a call-back. I'll try to track it down*.
I've also seen this number mentioned: 0870 595 9595 option 1 4 1 - don't know if that will help, but the person who mentioned it, on another forum, stated that he had tried several times with that number, getting an engaged tone, before being put in a queue for 20 minutes - but was then answered. A bit better than the 2 HOURS that is currently being reported!
*Ah - found the e-mail postings (post number 14 here ) - Stupid of me to not realise that OF COURSE it was THAT thread!! :rotfl:0 -
I did that. I emailed sky and it took weeks for them to contact me but they did. I had actually given up hope they would so I was surprisedThanx

JUST this second checked CNN.com on Sky Broadband...and apart from my lousy wireless signal taking a while to load the page, I can confirm that there is NO blocking of the site by SKY. :-}0

For getting hold of sky to give them the code i couldnt even get on to the queue when i pressed option 1 for 'existing customer'. So the next time i pressed option 2 'new customer' and got through in 15 mins.
08705 515 515 - then select new customer.0
