glad i've just spent half hour reading this thread!
have been very tempted by the freeness of this deal, or at least only £5 a month, but not sure if all the hassle you guys have had is worth it.
am currently on a freebie with NTL which runs out next month, so think i'll just ring them back and re-negotiate another deal as their BB is good.0 -
I've had no issues with Sky (so far)..
Had to do a "cease and provide" from PlusNet LLU but..
Phoned Sky, ordered MAX and 10 days later I'm currently getting 12MEG (BT even did their bit one day early).0 -
we ordered sky max package, they came and installed package router/box charged us £20 for wireless thingy on 5th october guy told us to ring for activation date, kept trying until yesterday were then told we could not get it because of bt and tiers?????? and could not give us a timescale for this YEAR - they suggested i write in for a refund for wireless doggle thing and to send router back in box and label provided - will i hell - surely the have sold me something without providing the promised ending?0

That's the problem I'm having with Sky broadband - activated on the Max package last Friday 13th (after 11 days with no internet grrrr!) and the connection just drops frequently.
It's a bit rich Sky saying you only have 8 days to cancel contract if it takes 10 days to train the line!
Apart from the connection just dropping without warning or reason about 5 or 6 times every day..I'm very happy with the speeds lol - getting 15.5mb speeds downloads just a pity about the stability. I'll be cancelling this Friday if it isn't fixed by then as I can't afford to be tied to a 12 month contract on an unreliable service.0 -
Sky just called me about the status of my broadband order. They seemed completely confused when I told them that it had been working for weeks now. They thought it was still pending. They are completely useless.0

Sky Broadband - anyone hooked up yet?? I've just changed to them (NW London) & have not had a good experience so far. 1st 2 weeks with no connection at all, then a whole day diconnected on Sunday. I'm supposed to be getting a speed of 2Meg for free (Sky base package) but so far its been less than 512k speed. lets hope things get better soon!0

OK. On the whole, not too bad. Tech support has been good and friendly.
Problems: before I subscribed I asked if SKY BB was compatible with Macs and PCs as I wanted to set up a wireless network between the two. I was told it was. It isn't. You CAN apparently connect wirelessly to the Mac but have to disable some aspect of the security, which I'm not too happy with. In the end I have the Mac on ethernet cable and have used netgear wireless wall plugs to wirelessly connect my PC at the other end of the house.
The speeds are quite slow even though I am supposed to be on MAX 16MB! Could be the wireless aspect. Yet even though I am showing 54Mbps, it sure doesn't feel like it. The wireless router you get for £20 is a cheaper netgear...would have liked the option to pay slightly more for a faster/wider range one!
I play Battlefield 2 and this is the first time on a broadband connection that I keep losing connection to the server mid-load. Really annoying me...and suggestions gratefully received!
I've run a few ping tests, etc, and it looks like I'm uploading at 0.5MB and downloading at 2MB...go figure...
Sky have refunded me £17 for the problems so far and, as I have already stated, they are very good on the customer support and tech support side. Of course, I could just have been lucky and got three very good people! Compare this to the nightmare of BT support I've been having and I'm relatively happy with SKY BB. Love my Sky+ box too..mmmmmm
Hope this helps.0 -
Having been using Sky BB for several weeks they have now contacted my to tell me that they are going to disconnect me again
Apparently they have a problem at their end and they must cease my service and reinstate it - which could take 20 days!!!! Another wait with no broadband. Another months free Sky rental but it's not much help when I want to do my Christmas shopping on line :mad:0 -
Have you been having problems with it?
I got my e-mail from them over a month ago, I got my MAC from current provider (plusnet - boooo!) but then couldn't get through to Sky (spent £7 trying to get through before I gave up). My special order number expired several weeks ago, but now they've sent me another e-mail, with the same order number on, without an expiry date this time - unfortunately my MAC has now expired, so I'd have to request another one, and there still would be no guarantee that I could get through, so I'm going to wait until the New Year - my exchange is due to be unbundled in February at which point the Sky Broadband becomes cheaper!
Edit - okay - so I changed my mind!! plusnet, for once, were rather efficient and provided me with a new MAC key very rapidly and, as I rely on my broadband connection for work, amongst other things, which seems to be pretty dire at the moment (the connection, not the work!), I decided to ring Sky on the off-chance I could get through. And I did!! After negotiating the various menus it was picked up within a few seconds and dealt with very efficiently. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that the rest of it happens equally efficiently!0
