Having read on the DigitalSpy forums here, it appears that it's possible that Sky maybe blocking websites.

Two websites that don't appear to work for those on Sky's bb are www.cnn.com and www.projectpsp.com, whilst those, like me, accessing the websites via other ISPs have no problems.

This maybe related to content filtering software or something that Sky supply with their broadband, or Sky themselves may unknowingly be blocking them, or it is a routing issue. I doubt its the latter one though.

    Saw this on http://www.skyuser.co.uk:

Quote: "This is the same issue as CNN - Morethan's hosting provider's upstream ISP hasn't updated their filters to allow the Sky IP range in.

As Sky's range is rather large (1.05 million IPs - 90.192/12 for net anoraks), RIPE allocated us this range from a greenfield IP range which until now has never had anyone on it.

Consequently, IP carriers round the Internet filter out these ranges (bogon filters).. mainly to stop things like spam/DDoSes spoofed from these illegal IPs.

Now that this range is no longer "illegal", these ISPs need to update their bogon filters.

Most are pretty good at updating them, however theres always a few that fall through the cracks, hence situations like this."

More concerning is that some people are reporting problems accessing quidco.com as the Sky broadband IP address may be flagged as being outside of the UK. I am considering switching to Sky BB, but quidco.com is one of the sites I use. Does anyone with Sky broadband LLU service have any experience with this?

I ordered Sky Broadband, got my MAC from Orange with no problems, the Sky router duly arrived via a nice man in a taxi.
Activation day arrived, this was the 11th Sept, nothing happened.
Checked the order on the BT site which said work in progress.(still does!)

Rang Sky who said BT was overloaded and wasn't meeting their deadlines.

    Anyone else got problems?

  • I currently have a wired network set up at home with 5 PC's running from it. Can I continue to use my current ADSL router or will I have to modify all my equipment?

I haven't but our next door neighbours have been with them for a while and they haven't had any issues. Hadn't heard of an option 4 before - what does that give you?

    Option 4 was on the old package (2004)…Only 2Meg & £30.99 P/M (what a rip off!)

Well I decided to stay with BT for another year, they offered option 3 for £21.99 (£5 off) for 1 year + Wireless router & 7.5 Meg.
  • I've had a nightmare with Sky. Having been with Madasafish for 18months I thought it'd be easy to move to Sky broadband. After 5 days of phoning they found the problem with my activation. Apparently you can only use a BT phone line. But they never told me on the phone, my number passed the test when I was ordering and my One.Tel line has been quite happily supporting Madasafish broadband with no problems.

Now in a customer service nightmare as I have to get a MAC code to move to another provider who can service my request. Anyone else had this problem and get out of the Sky deal?
  • SKY seem clueless about their broadband service!
  • It's my 3rd day connected to downstairs and I get a speed of 2.54 MB. It seems to constantly flutuate up and down ( around 1 MB) all the time which isn't very reliable. I need it to be consistent for my needs.

They do seem to be having a lot of customer service problems at the moment, rather reminiscent of Carphone Warehouse. See this article for example: http://media.guardian.co.uk/newmedia/story/0,,1873474,00.html
