    Morning all

This afternoon I'm going to sow some more spinach and more peas, also going to transplant my chilli & pepper seedlings into individual pots.

I also think I need to re-pot my tomato seedlings into individual pots as they are getting very leggy but on the packet it says to re-pot them after 4 weeks when its only been just over two weeks since I sowed them. Anyone got any thoughts on this please? I saw on GW last night that Toby was re-potting his, but his seedlings seemed much sturdier than my little 'uns! I also stroked them like he said to do and some of them keeled over :(

If I do re-pot them do I need to bury them up to the first leaves?? I seem to remember someone saying on here that makes them get a better root system.

    Happy growing everyone :D

Mine have got leggy too as it's been so cold and they've not been outside :(

I'm contemplating binning 25 tomato plants in 3" pots. :(

Anyways, to create a sturdy plant from an early sowing, it's best to bury the plant as deep as possible, it will root from the stem. I did it last year and it made some of them more stable.

Pot into the next size up. So if they are 4 to a pot, imagine them being in a pot a 1/4 of the size and pick the size up from that.

you can plant it in if you can get to your patch. I have heavy clay soil so it's very difficult to plant anything after it's been raining.

I'm not putting potatoes in until next weekend or the one after next. Frost is forecast for some parts of the country over the next week so be aware of it where you are
  • thanks for the pics shelvis, your garden looks lovely,

i had my dig in seeds come through the post yesterday hehe woooooooo...

i was thinking of getting some flexitubs today to start my potatoes in and transferring some of my seeds into separate pots now before putting them out, its all very exciting
Been away for ages and feel like a newbie again!
  • Started my dig in seeds a few days ago, looking forward to giving the courgettes a go most of all!!

Few more emerging seedlings on the carrots, ever so excited, I know a watched pot never boils just hope a watched plant pot isn't the same I keep checking it all the time!!

Thanks for that misskool - I'm going to pot them up to small pots this afternoon as well as my peppers and chillis. Think I will leave planting out my peas for a while yet.

Lots of activity this morning so far :)

Rocket and lollo I started earlier in the week has the poke through. YAY

Perp spinach leaves now all coming up

More scatterings of carrot seeds leaves in the trug no 1

tendrils stretching out to the cane of the 1st lot of peas.

Had to earth up the popup waste container for the british guard ( or whatever they are called) again, almost at the top now! :j

Have sowed 2x golden delicious squash in large P pot ( one each)

have sowed up 4x runer and 4x tendergreen I dont want a glut of either so they have gone in Mr M tubs with canes to train them up the iron stair case. ( peas on one side, beans on the other)

Have done 3 more in a childs sandbucket of broadbeans

The peas for pea-shoots only starting to poke through

second lot of spring onions also emerging now.

Also done some cress on cotton wool thats in the kitchen windowsill now.

Am bringing the courgette, salad, patty pans, aubergines, toms, chillis and peppers in from the unheated roof room as I believe its going to go cold again and I darent leave them up so theyll come in in a few mins.

Am running out of compost again

Hope everyone has a great greenfingered weekend :j

    Hi,
Just having a cuppa and a rest from sowing! Having looked at the forcast for next week (snow!) I have put off sowing anything outside. (Wanted to do tatties, carrots, onion sets and cabbage).

Instead, i have sown indoors, kelvedon wonder peas, brussels (brilliant F1) and a load of perennial flower seeds (lupin, aquilegia and chrisanths). :)

Gonna dig around in shed for more pots (made 40 toilet roll pots today :D), then hopefully sow some more perennials and onion sets (Thanks Misskool).

My potatoes are screaming to go out but i will wait this next cold spell out and hopefully get them out next weekend! The waiting is the hardest bit I think! :o

i was tidying the garden but i've just been rained on. :(
  • :eek:Snow:eek: same here, I'm glad all mine are still in the conservatory awaiting planting out - got jasmine, hydrangea and honeysuckle waiting to go out for my pergola, calamondin, fig, apple and raspberry trees, loads of various perennials and veg in pots and trays. Might go Trentham Gardens or Bridgemere tomorrow to try and pick up a few more bits if the weather is as nice as it is today. Would have done some more sowing if I'd not have had to go to work in a bit  booo. Enjoy the rest of your afternoons!!!
