YAY!
What about putting them on blogger, its really good. Im using it as a diary of the growing season . I have to say I love to see what people are doing, what pots they use, what their gardens look like - and especially if its been done on a tight budget!
I think Im also going to run a total of waht weve actually spent on growing this year and work out whether it is cheaper, I have a funny feeling for us it might not be:eek: Suppose i better total up whats been spent so far would be interested to know what others have spent and what theyve got for the money etc
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Depending on where you are in the country, it is still REALLY cold, especially by a windowsill at night. Although, it is strange they haven't germinated yet. How deep did you plant the seeds? Did you follow the depth written on the packets? Probably best to re-sow some more now.
I've not used coir before so cannot comment but I don't water my plants every day (unless it's HOT). If you're using a propagator lid, I don't water again until they pop up. If not using a propagator lid, I just crumble a bit between my fingers and if they are still damp, they will be fine for another day.
.
Thanks, I think I will plant some more!
We are in the South East and it is really mild, so I think something might have gone wrong
But I am going to get my Jiffy 7s out in a minute! They are really good. (Well, they will be if anything germinates!)0 -

Photos you say? Right here is what I am up to right now.
Here is my kitchen windowsill. From left to right I have 4 cayenne pepper, 4 red pepper and 4 plum tomato plants.
Here is my playroom windowsill. From left to right I have 3 jalapeno chilli plants (not through yet) and 3 cherry tomato plants that have true leaves just coming.
Here is the sideboard in the playroom. The one on the left is lettuce and the left propogator is cut and come again salad leaves (3 types) and they are sprouting through this morning! Not all though so will leave lid on till tomorrow morning. The other propogator is my peas which haven't come through yet but they have only been in 5 days.
Here is the piccy of my veg bed. The one closest to us with the cold frame on it is empty now and I am just warming the soil. After Easter I will be putting my peas in there and also planting french beans and sweetcorn. The one on the right with the blue cover on is also being warmed and is to house the lettuces and salad leaves. The one at the back has in it red onions, spring onions, garlic, rosemary, mint, sage, aparagus (the tall thing in the middle but am yet to be convinced it is alive still...) parsley, chives and a couple of other herbs I have forgotten. The flexitubs are potatoes (apart from the middle one which is carrots)
This is a shot from another angle. In the top left is one of my pear trees and the bush we cut right back last year is blackberrys. The round bush at the front is holly.
This is a shot of the rest of the garden just so you can see how much we have taken up in veg. In the top corner there is another pear tree along with a raspberry bush (which looks dead) and a redcurrant bush (which looks like it will come back). There is also round the edge of the decking beyond the trellis a bay tree which is coming on lovely, a mulberry bush that has never even flowered never mind bore fruit and also an olive tree that has never fruited.
Sorry if they are not great I did them with my camera.0 -
Just when you thought it was safe ... the soil is not what you think.

Courgettes poking through afer half an hour on the radiator this morning!!0

Gosh - an update from us today is that a couple more tomatoes are poking through - hurrah!
That is after just under two weeks.
Last night I planted some more squash, tomatoes and parsley in the Jiffy 7s.
We were at a River Cottage 'Get Growing in Spring' day last weekend. We have been before and it's really good value. It costs about 12 pounds. It's sort of like a fete, with a tent where you can swap seeds/produce, things to buy (gardening tools, gadgets etc), books and so on. Then there is another tent where you can buy seeds, various goodies (e.g. chilli chocolate - yum!), learn about composting/wormeries and talk to stallholders about various things.
Tea, coffee and cordial were free and you could also get beer and cider. Lunch was about three or four quid. They had talks by various experts including the head gardener at River Cottage, John Wright (the man off the telly who forages mushrooms - he is really nice and funny), and a wormery expert. They also had people in the polytunnels you could chat to about propagation etc.
I know it's a bit late now but I would really recommend it for anyone who is interested in seeing how it's done, or anyone who has questions, for next year.
I seem to have waffled a bit so I will shush now!0 -
Hi all, hope everyone is getting on ok?
Our garlic is doing well outside and the blueberry bushes look good too
We have titchy tiny little lettuce seedlings
Tomato plants coming on well as are cucumber, cauliflower, broccoli and the marrow seedlings are going great guns. Going to sow the "second wave" next weekend I think.
We've been using Muller light pots as next stage pots after the seed trays, poked some holes in the middle and they have come in very handy.
We lost the waterproof cover off our mini greenhouse, luckily we have one of the little fleecey covers too, but goodness knows what happened to it, lol must have taken off like a see through tardis!
Can anyone recommend a good chilli, that is quite a mild one please?
Thanks0
