  • Hi can I ask a quick question? My courgettes now are pretty big (i swear every time i walk into the kitchen they get 2 new leaves) and the roots are coming out the bottom of their 4" pots.

So do I pot them onto a flexitub now (which is where they will end up) or do I put them into a 9" pot for a while first?? I have some morrisons buckets left so I could put them i n that.

In fact could I just grow them in the morrisons buckets? Or are they too small? I have 4 plants and 6 buckets so I could do it.

Tomatoes: you start feeding them when they produce flowers, mine haven't yet so I'm not feeding them but once they do I'll feed them once a week. heynonnynonny - Gardeners Delight aren't tumbling toms - I've got 6 of them and they're about 3 feet high (staked to a bamboo cane).

zippychick I asked the same question about chillis and peppers a while back and was told that you don't plant them up to the seed leaves as they can rot (unlike toms which grow more roots). I planted mine not up to the seed leaves and they are growing really, really well :D

A question about courgettes: I see from other posts that you need large containers for courgettes. I've run out of pots and rather than buying anymore I wondered if I could grow mine in a spare potato growing bag that I've got, I've got 3 courgettes left as have given the rest away. Any advice please? Thanks

Oops Kimmee - that's what I have done! They seem so small, i don't ever think they will grow :D

For your courgettes - Dig in says you can use a grow bag - i found the tutorials really useful, but I wish they would damn well hurry up and put the next one up!

I am growing french beans, and they are growing at an alarming rate. I've named them the mutants. Going to take pics today so can post some links if anyone wants. Terrifying how they grow!

    You're very welcome :D

Have a guess at how my french beans are doing???? Bl**dy nothing :rotfl:, well except for the one keeping the peas company and thats doing very well. May I enquire about yours (she says through gritted teeth!!!!!!!!!)?

Thanks zippychick, der - never thought about looking at the tutorials!!!. Well don't lose hope on the chilli front, mine grew slowly but surely but not at anywhere near the pace of say courgettes or cucumbers. Let us know how they go? :D

I found them really helpful! Find myself saying "grow grow grow" a lot the way the woman does!:rotfl:

I hope to be hanging around here , so am sure you will be innundated with my [STRIKE]problems[/STRIKE] questions :p

I have a scotch bonnet plant i bought in - and am potting it up but can't seem to find a useful link about how big the grow or how big a pot to put it in.

This is how new I am to gardening - I got confused about what seeds yielded what and planted a load of courgette seeds, thinking each one was a courgette, and now I have 13 plants, plus one in the bin I broke ! Have homes for most of them though, but want to leave them a day or so to see if theyt survive my reportting ok.

Would hate to give someone a plant for it to die a few days later :p

    It's all so exciting.:j

I'll get a link up shortly to the mutants (ie french beans)

    awesome!:D

I have repotted the courgettes - think wrongly? They seem to have big stems so i planted te big stem mostly under the soil.... wrong? right? Gosh, there's so much to learn

I just thought they needed the support?

    Here's
all the courgette plants i potted up today (which were in 3 pots total before!) :o:rotfl:

    French beans 1and 2

(originally planted on the 16th April, now tallest one is 14 inches)
