I'm growing 6 peas and all bar one took flight in their final tubs straight away. 1 however didn't really do anything for about 3 weeks other than grow a bit. It now climbing and catching up to the others, which are flowering. So maybe just give them a bit more time. Has it been long since you repotted / moved them?
thanks for that, i put them outside a couple of weeks ago. They don't look dead - just not inclined to climb! I keep wrapping the tendrils on the trellis but they drop off again later!! Oh well, i guess i'll sit it out and see!
thanks again.2009 - Attempting to grow my own Kitchen garden.....did it!!!

megansmum - cucumbers like really good weather. They hate the cold. This is the perfect time to start them off, but you really need to keep them indoors all summer. I haven't much of a clue with peas & brussels though, just potted my peas into troughs with canes in a sort of tent and am hoping for the best!
helen - for courgettes aim to have them in the biggest pots you can get, they need LOADS of water
thank you izwizz, i will sow some tomorrow and keep them on the windowsill until i get a replacement cover for the plastic greenhouse! Will i need to harden them off for the greenhouse or should they be okay to go straight in? Like a fool i put my first batch straight out and lost the lot in the last cold snap - gutted, they were mini bush ones too. These new ones are the type that grow up high!! urgh!

My peas are exactly the same. They are quite tall (about 6-8 inches) and getting rather floppy because they don't seem to have sussed out how to climb the darn frame i spent ages making for them!
Hopefully, in a wee while they will have a lightbulb moment :rotfl:Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Mine are doing their own thing too, some of them are climbing happily up to pea sticks, some are climbing up each other having wrapped their tendrils round the other plant and some seem to have some kind of deathwish and are trying to dive out the pot to the ground :rotfl:
Oh well, as long as they produce pods I don't mind what they do!
It's strange how some veg plants have reacted to the very hot weather we've had over the last few days - my sweet peppers which I thought would absolutely love all the hot sunshine completely wilted and had to be revived with a long drink and shade whereas my courgettes are absolutely thriving. Have now moved all my toms into their final pots and they seem very happy (just hope the cooler temps don't harm them). My potatoes are going completely bonkers, the onions seem to have flopped and don't seem very happy, the rocket is very happy as are the beetroots and I'm getting so much in the way of salad leaves that I'm beginning to resemble a rabbit :rotfl:
and I'm very happy to report that I pulled my first few radishes this afternoon to have with dinner - small and HOT!
Good to hear what everyone else is up to0 -

Hi everyone
Been on holiday for the last week and half but thankfully my dad came up and watered my plants otherwise I would be coming back to lots of dead veggies!
Here is an update:
Peas - gone MAD and climbing the sticks and wire nicely. Started to flower
Strawberrys - All flowering lots I have 6 hanging baskets full
Sweetcorn - Just planted out 4 plants. Expecting about 4 cobs of each so not massive yield but it's an experiment this year. They look well so far.
Rocket and salad leaves - went mental while I was away so it's chicken salad for tea!
Beetroot - Growing nicely
Dwarf beans - Something ate most of the seeds while I was away although I have some sprouting now. Planted loads more yesterday as this is what we got best results with last time
Onions - HUGE hope they are good size underneath. We set them and the spirng onions last year so I have high hopes. Going to have some spring onions for tea in the salad
Radish - Also gone mental. Really need thinning out so with the salad for tea I am going to have some mini radishes rather then throw the thinnings.
Cabbages - Coming along nicely. If with a few bites out of them.................
Tomatoes - Plum are short and sturgy and cherry are tall and a bit thinner. Plum are flowering now not sure if i pinch the flowers out?? Any advice??
Peppers/Chilli - Red pepper short and sturdy but looking good. Cayenne and jalapeno coming along. All outdoors in their morrisons buckets.
Rasberrys - Got 2 cames with foliage on so far. Summer fruiting so not expecting anything this year.
Redcurrants - MASSIVE plant now looking good!
Blacberrys - Hacked it right back down last year because it had got out of hand so I am not expecting anything tell next year
Pear - Both trees have lost their blossom now so it's just waiting
Patio apple - planted in garden but they are designed to grow all the way up the trunk. Blossom gone but plenty of flowers so hoping for lots of apples
Hazelnut - Lots more greenery on it now doing really well
Bay tree - HUGE new cecntre shoot on it may have to do some pruning as don't want it to get all big
Herb garden - Really happy with this. I have coriander, rosemary, oregano, applemint, spearmint, parsley and sage all in a 42cm hezagonal tub. So glad they are contained as they have grown like crazy. They are just outside back door so no excuse not to use them all this year.
Mulberry bush - Someone asked me to post a piccy (rubbish with names but I remember the henry hoover piccy!) so here it is below. It's been in ground 4 years this year and has never flowered or fruited. My hubby wants to get rid of it but I am ever hopeful!
Got lots to catch up on here I see!! Will go off now and see how everyone is doing.0 -

I'm confused by the pinching out the flowers too, because I'm sure I read a few pages back that others were pinching out the flowers? Because of that I pinched out the flowers from 3 of my 4 plants. I do hope more will form now. Why would others have suggested doing it? I've never done it before, and usually leave them to grow doing their own thing.
Advice or thoughts anyone to the conflicting advice? One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0
