Katholicos and Chimera- just had a look at your photos - they look great :D

Katholicos I can't believe how busy you must have been, really impressive

Congrats to both of you :D

Thanks Kimee! I enlisted the help of the kids in doing the hard work like carrying the compost to the car/from the car/into the raised beds....or i wouldn't have been able to get it done....i knew the kids would come in useful one day :D

    Also, quick couple of questions..

I bought some pea and bean netting from poundland today, I have some growing along fence, if i fix the netting to the fence will they be ok to grow up that, or should I stick to canes?

And is it ok to put sweetcorn out yet?

    OK

In terms of the netting, yes its fine, they will climb up it. Just tack it up if you can find a way- a stapler woiuld be good for this I think I have some net basically wrapped and tied around a stair case and on the outside of a row of buckets and the peas are taking to it well :)
Not sure about sweetcorn, Im prob not as far on as you, but mine are in the greenhouse and are not going anywhere yet, to be fair im going to wait till I crop potatoes and put some in the planters that the potatos are in, so I need to wait a bit (lol) for that.

London rumoured to be in the 80s today :j

Have been salvaging some stuff . One of the aubergines has been binned along with a few of the patty pans I have 2 patty pans now "surviving"

Ive moved the tondo courgettes into the patty pan box, I can see this going quite badly wrong but they were bursting out of the tough so had no real choice.

All toms/ peppers etc all repotted now. Peppers looking really good :T

Ive moved the Golden delicious squash into a container as some of the leaves were yellowing and I hope they survive in that planter- not sure whether to put them out yet any ideas anyone ( they are meant to clamber and crop around Autumn?)

Otherwise the beans looka bit better I have pulled out the crap lookign ones and done a feed too they look ok.

I have bit the bullet and used miracle gro as I cant bear everything failing and containers I think need an extra hand. Will try something else next year!

Re: carrots- planted in feb, large ferny fronts now? I pulled one and there was nothing uinderneath it, just got the fern? Any ideas? Top be honest I could do with the trug for planting the sweetcorn in !

Must do more lollo rosso as I have ate it all & it was so good.

Watercress now starting to take shape. Will be able to make a nice sauce out of this soon I think!

Big courgette now has 2x fruit on, I have put it outside as it was getting so frazzled in the greenhouse. Will try adn sort some photos in a bit!

Not too bad then overall, a lot better than I thought it was last week think miracle gro has helped ;)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

My radishes seem to be doing well!
Spinach has settled in to raised bed!
Planted 3 courgettes into main soil yesterday as raised bed is full! Thats a total of 8 courgette plants
The beetroot and swede seedlings i did the other day so far dont seem hopeful. I used Asda compost but lifting the plastick sheet cover on my seedling tray and the compost seems a mess. It looks like the lime/additives in the compost has "fluffed" up to look like mould, but sure its not mould.

Any newbies Do NOT buy Asda compost for seedling IMHO. So looks like i need another tray and use the left over seeds!

With our garage refurbishment due in the next few weeks i could have some 6x3 joists spare! Could be ideal for more raised beds!

I didn't get my hands on the larger Morrisons buckets, mine are only 8-9" by 8" deep so I doubt they'd hold 2 beans. Have my Tomatoes in some at the minute and I'm slightly worried that it may just be too small for them.

On the subject of tomatoes, is it worth cracking open a pot and making a cuff to go around the base of the tomato plant for a little bit of ring culture? Saw it on Gardener's World last night and I'm wondering if it's definately worth the bother?

Ohh by the way, all the corn and french beans I tried doing the wet paper germination thing seem to have come up. Also managed all of my sage seeds (only 1 came up in the cells) this way so seems successful.

Planted out 3 more corgettes yesturday (one had quite a few nibles over night). Planted out 18 sunflowers yesturday also but I think I've lost 6 overnight to somethings midnight feast. My large tubs are growing very nicely. 1 tub with potatoes in are starting to bust up at the top of the tub. My other three tubs are filled with 8 french beans in each with a corguette in the middle. These are all growing super speed (I wish I had 10 foot case in stead of 6 lol as there now at the top). My 2 crates of carrots are looking nice and ferny plus I sowed a further two crates yesturday. Sat 15 of my toms in there final positions. My mum kindly bought my two aubergine plants from the special plant market they had on in town (neither of us knew about this or that is where I would have spent my day). Instead DD has been happily running around in her cossie splashing and getting muddy, while we have been sorting out the borders to make more beds. My veg have to go in somewhere lol. I've also taken another crop off my salad leaves. These are feeding us and mum and dad. Peppers and chilies are coming along and so are the peas. I just keep forgetting to crop my herbs.

Ive found they take ages , last year when I grew them I think I sowed them in April and we ate them mid August onwards. I think there are some early maturing types such as Nantes and Mignon which are ready sooner but obviously the growing and forming roots does depend on having the weather they need / watering etc. It seems all root vegetables take a while, very frustrating !

Wow! You are doing very well! I'm growing a tonne of stuff too (possibly literally lol!) and this is my first year. I am definately an all or nothing person though, so my gardening is like my personality :rotfl:. Keep us updated!
