Oh - just found this thread and love it already! Feeling slightly more optimistic knowing that it's ok to have a go and see what happens :) I've just moved to a house with a garden and am hoping to plant herbs and veg but have no idea what I'm doing! The plan for the weekend is to put in the herbs and then clear some space for planting veg - oh and then work out what we want to grow........I have no idea yet how good the soil will be as there's not much growing at the moment.

No - not too late but try to get some plants with some decent growth. If you get them into a nice warm spot they should be able to do well still.

Quick question about tomatoes. Mine are taking over the room and I want to move them outside. Will they be okay in one of those plastic greenhouses from Wilko's?

Would be interested in any replies you get antonia as mine are taking over my conservatory, thing is I could put my mini bels in there but my gardeners delights are already too tall

Happy bank holiday gardening all (tho don't think there will be much done tomorrow or sunday as it's forecasting heavy rain here, think I will be decorating tomorrow :().

the only thing not to have germinated yet are my Sweetcorn, cucumber and parsnip - think it's maybe not warm enough yet.
I cannot for the life of me get any parsnip to germinate.

Everything coming along really well in the Greenhouse, peas, beans, tomatoes, peppers, aubergines, chillies etc etc have all germinated - the only thing not to have germinated yet are my Sweetcorn, cucumber and parsnip - think it's maybe not warm enough yet. Will have another look tomorrow and then maybe sow some more.

Hi Scotsaver - my cucs have germinated but they are on a sunny windowsill in my living room - they're growing by the day. Would think that the greenhouse maybe isn't warm enough. HTH

Do it on kitchen paper inside on a plate. Then plant them out.

Just been out to check my toms (again!) and I still can't see what's been munching on my moneymaker. There is however a sticky substance on some of the leaves... Does that mean some sort of aphid?

Something's been eating the very top leaves of my dianthus as well. Wouldn't have thought it was slugs as only the top leaves have been munched.

More of my lettuce seeds have sprouted, it's so exciting!
