I haven't tried the slug tape yet, has anyone else? it's a strip of copper tape, apparently slugs and snails don't cross it.

works brilliantly, but make sure there are no snails or slugs already in the soil, otherwise you'll be trapping them in ;)

Bought 2 clematis from Aldi today at £1.89 each. And some, wait for it....Jeyes Fluid patio cleaner....

Cleaned the patio, watered the veggie beds/troughs etc (before the rain came DOH!).

I have not been on this thread for a while, but a fair bit is happening in our garden and on our windowsills now.

The radishes are growing (I think one of them may be ready as there is a little bulge on the soil surface, but how do I know for sure?).
The nasturtiums that I planted as a sort of experiment have popped up.
    Carrots are popping up.
Not sure about parsnips - it is difficult to tell as there are a few tiny weeds in the bed.
We planted asparagus crowns on Easter Monday. One is growing very tall (not sure what I am meant to do with it, so have left it!), and a couple of others are shooting through, but we planted 10 and not all of them are up yet.
Some of the potatoes are now showing through the earth
The raspberry canes have leaves, and the start of flowers
Salad leaves are growing well in the greenhouse (I will pick some tomorrow)
Sprouts and tomatoes, also in the greenhouse, are growing
My broad beans, which have been outside for a while, seem okay
My worry is my runner beans. I planted them in old tin cans, and they are getting incredibly tall. I believe it is too early to put them outside just yet but they're rambling like mad on my windowsill. I am not sure if I should put them into big pots, or try to hang on for a while - any advice would be much appreciated!

Chives are a easy grow herb and multiply very easily. I divide many every year just splitting the pot and then given them away and then divide the large clumps into little clumps to allow room to divide again. Lovely flowers too, mine will soon be out by looks of it

They had pots of chives in Morrisons for 70p yesterday so I might get one.

I'm so excited though, just been into the garage and my lettuces are sprouting!!! :j

  • Thanks savemoney, I think a couple of us are having trouble starting it from seed so seems definitely worthwhile getting a plant.

Received my lollo rossa and green salad bowl seeds through the post today....the dig in ones have done so well although seem to be strangling each other...but I'm learning as I go on!
Ahhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!

Went into the greenhouse today to water everything and I noticed that the bedding plants on the bottom were looking rather holey... Had a look and found 8 slugs! *shudders* There's not much that makes me squeamish but I have to admit to hating slugs. I couldn't kill them, so they got dumped out the front on the communal grass as far from the house as I could get. We get lots of birds there so hopefully they took care of it. (I'll go out later and make sure they're not trying to make their way back over the paving! ;))

Have moved the bedding plants outside on a pile of slabs just now until I work out where to put them. Worried about my toms too. There weren't any anywhere near them but I'll keep an eye out! :(

I've not seen a single one in my garden yet, although by the time it's finished and established I may do. In fact I've only seen a spider and lots of worms since starting gardening. I can't bear the thought of having to shift slugs I really can't I'm a big wuss

I nudged them off with a plant label! No way I could actually touch them, or kill them even. I have to admit I still feel queasy at the thought and had to resist the urge just to put the whole lot in the bin! According to Which they're field slugs, ugh. Can slugs burrow?

We have so many spiders here! I gave up counting at 20 one day...

My wonderful mum is buying me a greenhouse!!! :j It'll be going on slabs and slug proofed lol.

I bought from betterware, but it's probably much cheaper elsewhere.
