    Hello everyone,

I just wanted to say thanks for the messages of support back around the 5th! I have not been on here since and it took a while today to catch up on all the posts!

I have not been in the garden at all in the last 4 weeks, but from the window i have seen :

    my potatoes are growing
The apple and cherry trees i planted last year are growing leaves.
    Onions are getting big already.
strawberrys are really coming on with lots of leaves.
new pear and plum trees are growing leaves, but a bit worried as i bunged them into a flexitub together as i didn't get round to digging holes - i hope their roots aren't intertwined!

Inside i did keep watering everything, so:

toms and cucs growing nicely, i must pot on soon.

peas all really big - i need to harden them off and get them out!

brussels really leggy - don't think they'll make it if i try to pot on...anyone any ideas? Can i bury the stems to thicken them?

All the flowers, perennials i had started i pretty much gave them all away as i don't want to do that this year any more, but i may bung some flower seeds out in the 3 mini raised beds i constructed before life went pearshaped.

I am going to get some more trugs and start the carrots off and start some sweetcorn this weekend...so I am getting back with the programme...slowly! :o

Talking of which - i LOVE "the edible garden". Alys has kept me sane the past few weeks!!:rotfl:

Many thanks again and happy growing to all !!! :D

  • Hi all, just a quick catch up and let you know how I am getting on .......

I have 2 lots of radishes coming up,
I have good looking little gem lettuce and Cos lettuce
Also 2 sturdy cucumber plants still on the windowsill as too cold to plant out.
No luck on my Chilli seeds though :(
Carrots are starting to sprout, beetroot germinating, and I have more spuds than I think we will ever eat :rotfl:
Tomato plants are in their planters but in the green house still.
Courgette's not sprouted despite planting over 3 weeks ago so I think might have to plant some more.
My Sweetcorn is doing great but indoors still in it's trugs and also my peas that I have planted in with the sweetcorn has started to sprout too.
I will try and take some photo's so I can show you my sproutings :D

Well done everyone as you are all doing really well :T

Megansmum- glad you are doing ok

Do you not have a Wilkos anywhere near you garnetlady? :( if not how about online.

I've just looked at their store locator and the nearest is about 25 miles. It's not a place we ever go, so until I come up with a good reason to head in that direction ;), online it may be. Didn't know they were online so thanks for that. :)

My chives, carrots, lettuces and broad beans aren't doing anything yet, but then it's only been a week for most of them lol. They're all in the garage, but will it be too cold in there for germination?

Got more to plant, might do it tomorrow but housework (ugh lol) might be a more pressing issue!

Ahhh its a shame some don't live closer. I have jalepenos and peppers growing galore here. Every seed has made an entry which means too many. If anyone is around my area I would happily give some away.

Also on the go I have carrots chantenay which have just popped up, spring onions, four types of tomatoes, herbs, and beans.

I still need to do my cucumbers, sweetcorn, aubergines and courgettes, salad, radish and beetroot, but I now have a border in my garden so I have places to put them!

Also happening around the house the thanksgiving cactus is about to burst to bloom, the wandering jew has gone crazy, the flaming katy is still blooming mad. I have gaillardias that need potted on, mixed poppies and black poppies all waiting to get potted on.

    Busy busy time!!!

Really good to see you back again Megansmum - sounds like you're doing well :D

Just to report that radishes, onions & American Land cress have germinated and seem to be doing ok. Cucumbers - now have 6 seedlings and they're getting bigger by the day.

Potatoes are also getting bigger everyday, toms - doing great, just can't wait to get them outside but cos of the forecast I'm still going to hold off for another couple of weeks just in case......

My peppers and chillis are now in my wilkos greenhouse and seem to be doing well out there. Carrots, rocket, spring onions are also growing but slowly. Have picked a lot of baby spinach leaves and must sow some more. Salad leaves are getting to be a good size and will be ready for harvesting in about a week I should think, sowed second lot a couple of weeks ago and they've germinated. Have now finished with the leaves that I grew indoors.

My one butternut squash seed that germinated is now huge, can I plant it outside yet does anyone know?

Good to see everyone's doing really well :j
  • Megansmum glad to see you've called in on the forum :D

Garnetlady I have struggled to germinate chives, but lettuces germinated without any real help or shelter for me.

    Kimmeee you have been busy!!

It's going to be a mad month in the garden!

I have struggled with chives too :(
Will keep trying, but think I will buy a couple of plants too - as we eat a lot of chives :)

I think I may have got a bit carried away with myself and made a few over excited muck ups lol
ive planted anything and everything and the first 30 seedlings are unknown as i cant remember what i put where :O but guess ll have to work that out as they get bigger

my main concern is courgettes, theyre growin in a seed tray, very nicely by the looks of it but after reading the packet properly ive seen they need to go in the ground far apart and i havent got the space! do they spread? i have a patio tub, would it be ok just to put them in that? I have 8 of them though :/

secondly my carrots are in 9cm pots, theyve just started sprouting- very thin tho so could be weeds lol when do i put them into my vegetable patch? they look so small an dainty it scares me!
Courgettes should be in a pot about 6" across each, now. And they do need that much space each in the ground.
    One per (big) pot.

You can't transplant carrots, they need to be sown where they are to grow. Sorry! Well you can try if you like, god knows what they will turn out like though. Better to sow some more.
