Spent yesterday sowing veg in pots, carrots, onions, beetroots, cauliflowers, felt really chuffed BUT just been outside and all my pots have been disturbed like the top 2 inches of compost all over the terrace, i could have cried!! Prime suspects- My dogs, but was wondering if it could have been pigeons as we have a quite a few visit our garden!
Trials and tribulations eh! Loving this new found hobby (obsession) i cant wait to get up each day and rush to my seeds and see if any new ones have come through, it's so exciting......

Wow lynz - that is exciting :D

I shall be delirious when I get my first flowers, I was excited enough when the seedlings pushed through :rotfl:
  • Been outside in the pouring rain. Don't think my coat covered my back properly as is soaking luckily the cat is sitting behind me on the chair so I can't lean back anyway!!

    Jobs done -

Transplanted first huge courgette young plant into 36cm pot - it was so well rooted in a 9cm pot even after 2-3 weeks since I planted them! Hope I've done right thing putting straight into big pot. Sowed 7 french bean seeds. Repotted fig 'brown turkey' tree, repotted chilli plant, sowed another big pot of royal chantenay red carrots, another lot of salad bowl too.

Split some of the flower buckets by not using sharp enough objects to pierce the bottom with, by using a sharp little knife it was very easy to create little holes without splitting the bucket.
Ahhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!

    hi everyone,

I finally got round to thinning out my lettuces and putting them into separate pots, I have put a few into 2 different trugs and 2/3 in the morrisons plastic buckets. I'm unsure whether Im doing right ;(( I have been leaving them outside all the time (no space for them in the plastic greenhouse) and watering them as and when, at the moment they look quite wet so I havent today). I have used multi purpose compost for them all. I was baffled as to how to get them out of the pot things, to me they look like they have been dumped into the pots, I really hope they "take" as I could do with saving some money!!

    Thanks

    Jen

I don't know if anyone's interested this late into spring but I went shopping today.

Lidl are having gardening stuff this week, starting today. organis peat-free growbags, the ones with 3 circles to plant 3 tomato plants or whatever, are only £1.19 (or was it £1.29?)

fruit bushes are 4 for a fiver, and unlike the ones I got from poundland these ones are actually healthy. blueberry, blackcurrant, redcurrant, gooseberry, blackberry, raspberry and passionflower I saw.

I got 6 healthy strawb plants for I think £2.99? all my poundland strawbs were dead when I bought them, but being a newbie I couldn't tell.

I can't remember what else we got ... my mum got flower bushes.

    Tesco have 20% off gardening.

My little one is desperate for strawberries in hanging baskets for the srawbs so we bought the tesco stuff. Somebody will probably be along to tell me you can't plant strawbs in those cheap fibre type liner baskets. I know nothing ....

cheap brackets are £2 and the baskets are 2 for £6. then there's 20% off.

I've put a strawberry Honoeye in a cheapy plastic lined hanging basket on my pergola, I'm sure they will all look lovely when grown a bit more!!

Hmm I feel a trip to Tesco coming on... They didn't have the 20% off the other day. I was eyeing up one of the acers, might get one now.

Went into the greenhouse today to water everything and I noticed that the bedding plants on the bottom were looking rather holey... Had a look and found 8 slugs! *shudders* There's not much that makes me squeamish but I have to admit to hating slugs. I couldn't kill them, so they got dumped out the front on the communal grass as far from the house as I could get. We get lots of birds there so hopefully they took care of it. (I'll go out later and make sure they're not trying to make their way back over the paving! ;))

Have moved the bedding plants outside on a pile of slabs just now until I work out where to put them. Worried about my toms too. There weren't any anywhere near them but I'll keep an eye out! :(

The 'dig in' booklet says to use eggshells. something got our carrots yesterday :(

I haven't tried the slug tape yet, has anyone else? it's a strip of copper tape, apparently slugs and snails don't cross it.
