We haven't been asked to bring any ID on the day. We had a little pack given with info such as what time we need to be there by, parking arrangments, payment etc and nothing mentioned ID x

Just bring yourselves, you dont need ID xx

  • Hi I asked this before but noone was really sure, is it possible for a Registrar to get dispensation to perform a ceremony in a different district?

I have an old family friend who is a registrar, but me and missus-to-be live elsewhere, would be a nice touch to have them do the ceremony, but I'm pretty sure they can't - was just if it'd ever come up and you knew. I know for example that for religious ceremonies the minister can get a form to allow them to do ceremony one-off elsewhere.

Thanks everyone, feel much better now! Am arriving by car so I guess will just be taken to the side. Have given NOT but not actually been to the registrars yet (booked them over the phone) - need to get a move on!

Does that mean you have given notice?

How did you do that over the phone? (If that's what you meant, if not, ignore me lol)

I've married a couple in a different district because they were friends of mine. Judging by your name are you in Scotland and if so, is the registrar friend in England? Its just that the marriage laws are different. I'd ask your friend to make enquires with the GRO, but I'm sure its up to the discretion of the registration service in the district where you marry. My Superintendent was brilliant - she sorted it all out for me (couldnt believe how nervous I was....!)
    Let me know the outcome!

    Hi Laura,

I think you need to contact the authorities in the country you're getting married in. Have a look here - this should help you!

    Im confused about ours.
When we gave notice the registrar said that on the day everyone (bridal party & guests) has to be there by 10:15am (ceremony at 10:30am)
We all go into the waiting room and the come and collect me and Groom and then everyone goes into the ceremony room.

Why is this? I thought that everyone would go into the room first and me and OH would be in waiting room?

Also, for my music. Am i to simply burn it onto a cd for them to play?

For the music, yep, burn it onto a CD, in order of how it's going to be played.

I think you can have it either way, you and OH waiting, or guests waiting then you and OH come in, or your guests and OH waiting, and you and X come in.

Just explain to them what you'd like and they will make it happen x

Hmm, need to buy some CD-R's now and work out how to get my laptop to burn music :) I lost the cd/dvd burning programme disc that came with it :(
