  • We met a couple of registrars at the wedding fayre when we went to suss out our venue, they were so lovely and couldn't be more helpful, before that we were a bit nervous about how civil partnerships would be seen, it's still fairly new and not as common as weddings, but they were so enthusiastic, when my partner rang with a query about something, they were really helpful too, we're meeting the lady who will be our registrar on the day next Friday - to through readings & music etc, just one little question ljbnotts; our friends are singing whilst we sign the register, we chose the 1st song but they have chosen the 2nd song which is a secret from us, we want to keep it that way so our friend is going to write the name of the song down and put it in an envelope that we can give to the registrar - this will be ok won't it?
    Thanks

Do you know what the prices are going up to In April to get married in the registry office in south Wales

Sorry I can't help there, as every county seems to have different prices. Our prices go up in April 2011 and the ceremony will change as well. You can have a short basic ceremony ( no own music, no readings Mon to Thurs and Sat mornings, smaller room) or an enchanced ceremony (own music, more time, readings, Sat afternoons, bigger ceremony room). Our local council has set the rate.

I would suggest giving your local office a call as they will be able to give you accurate information.

I would imagine it will be ok providing the Registrars can see it before hand and make sure it contains no religious/offensive content. Although they may require the lyrics for the song, not just the name?

It sounds like a lovely idea for your friends to do this!

Most registrars are really enthustiastic about CP and marriages, its a good time for registration and we all want to make sure your day is as special as possible. I'm sure you will have no problems!

Thanks, I didn't think about the lyrics - will ask them to do that too

It might be a good idea just so there is no confusion and the Registrar ends up spoiling the suprise by asking you anything about it! If they have tha actual lyrics then they won't need to ask!
  • I have a question. We're allowed up to three readings. Can we ask the registrar to read these, or is it us or one of our guests who reads them? It sounds like a stupid question, I know, I just haven't been to a civil wedding before!

I'd like to know too please! I actually have no idea about order of service for civil weddings.
  • Our registrar didn't mind doing a reading for us, but she said it's better if someone else does it as it's more personal/less boring!
    Bump due 22nd September
  • I've got a Q!!

How late in the day would majority of registrars be happy to conduct a service in a civil venue.

We are opting not to have a big wedding breakfast sit down meal, just the service and then an evening do. We therefore didn't want to tie the knot till 4/5pm ish

Do you think this is something which could be accomodated and isn't totally out of the norm?

    Thank you!

I guess it depends on the Registrar. I know that we will read if needed but it is much nicer for the couple to have their own readers. So you can ask the the Registrar to read for you or you can have a guest read for you. Its up to you! It is more unusual for the bride and groom to read though, but if its what you want i'm sure it can be done!

It's not a silly question by the way!
