  • I might sound really dumb for saying this....
but you both have to see the registrar right before the ceremony? Doesn't that mean the groom would see the bride before the actual wedding? :-s
(I'm having a civil ceremony in a hotel by the way)

Its not dumb! No, you should be seen seperately. Are you getting ready in the hotel before the ceremony? If so, the registrar usually comes up to your room to confirm all your details.
If you're arriving by car, then the groom will have already been seen by the registrar and will be in the room where the ceremony will take place. You are usually taken to a side room prior to the ceremony, then given a few minutes to adjust veil/hair/train etc before making your entrance.

By all means call your registrar beforehand if you have anymore questions.

Ooooh Sarah I just noticed your the day after me - yay! I'm getting married in the register office where I used to work!! I have a fear of saying the next line during the ceremony instead of repeating the registrars words (a bit like in the Vicar of Dibley when Alice got married!!)

    Haa haa!

When you went to show your paper work to the registrar they do ask whether or not you want to have your pre- ceremony meeting together or seperately. All you are asked is if you are ok to go ahead with things and are there any changes to the layout you had already submitted.

We haven't been asked to bring any ID on the day. We had a little pack given with info such as what time we need to be there by, parking arrangments, payment etc and nothing mentioned ID x
  • Thanks everyone, feel much better now! Am arriving by car so I guess will just be taken to the side. Have given NOT but not actually been to the registrars yet (booked them over the phone) - need to get a move on!
