Well done you for sorting him out quickly.

I would now be concerned about the joint account he has opened as you will be liable for any o/d he runs up on this so you need to contact the bank asap to see what they can do to freeze the account.

Close the joint account, or even better report the cards as stolen to the bank so they will freeze it & then keep both cards when the new ones are sent. Also check your credit records to see if he has taken out any other loans / credit cards etc while he's been living there.

I can see what Kay Peel is saying - but in light of what happened before and the wondering where all the money from joint account had dissapeared, I would have wanted to see the laptop too. He quite possibly might have a gambling problem!?

I dont think it's a gambling problem, he has spent money on diesel for car and bike, cash withdrawalls and shopping, one amount of £57 for the Co op where we/I never shop as its too expensive and we have a Farm Foods closer and dead cheap. He cant remember what he spent in there!! I reckon a few pounds and the rest in cash back.
I'm so angry at his gall and total refusal to see why I was so angry or that he'd done anything wrong, the worst thing was he transferred £85 to his account last week, turns out he used that money to buy me a Pandora Charm for Valentine's Day, so I bought my own present, I was furious with him when I got it as we were supposed to be economising.... I bought him a fleece and a shirt (really nice not rubbish, designer makes from the Marie Curie Shop both for under a tenner ) As for the facebook problem, I think he has blocked me as I cant find him on there!!! he has his pic on as i saw that last night, but when I search for him i find nothing, can anyone shed any light on that?

Forget facebook right now. Get straight down to the bank and insist that any further debits on the joint account are in both names and tell them about the split.

otherwise he will run up a huge debt on that account and YOU will be liable.

Sorry, no idea about the facebook thing, just wanted to say well done for confronting this so soon. There have been so manu threads on here from women whose partners are taking the p in one way or another and have done for a long time before they had the strength to sort it out, last night sounds horrid, and I hope you are OK.

Thanks to you all for your help and support, I cant get to the bank as I'm at work all day, the O/D on the joint account is £250 and apparantly that is up tp the limit so he cant spend anymore on it as his card is being refused now, could I take my name off the account over the phone?

Get a freind to search for him on facebook, but i think you can make yourself almost invisable, id say try finding him via his email, but he prob has an alternative one. It sounds suspish to me, be glad youve got rid BUT he is prob feeling angry and resentful towards you so I would defo take notice of the other posts and do somthing about the bank account. Cancel the cards it only a 5 min phone call. He may get the bank to up the overdraft and use it all ect.
I would change your lock, its not expensive for replacments and usually easy to do.
Good luck,,try not to listen to his excuses that will come, if hes like this after a few months, next time it will happen faster....experiance talking!

Sounds like his blocked you from facebook if you can no longer search for him.
To close the account you need to go in the bank and if i`m not wrong the account has to be in credit!x

Hey CC, don't know about the joint account but well done on chucking him out! Don't hunt for him on Facebook, he's not a friend, he's a user! I lived with an ex last year after I moved back to Britain. NEVER AGAIN. He couldn't get work (he wasn't British) and sat in all day with the telly, heating and laptop on. Thus my first electric bill was for £349!!!!! My phone bill was big too and I'd sent him packing before it came in, not that he would have had the money to pay it anyway. Money is tight now but if George Clooney was to appear at my door tomorrow I'd tell him that I need his half of the rent ASAP. Well done you X
