It might be a valid proof of ID to some but it isn't an acceptable proof of age for the sale of alcohol under the Licensing Act 2005.

Full passport, full driving license or an ID card with a PASS logo on it. That is the full list. As far as I know warrant cards do not have a PASS logo on it and are therefore not on the list. End of argument about ID.

If it is a police warrant card then I would ask for some retraining about what is classed as acceptable ID.

The argument about if you should have been asked for ID in the first place is different.

sorry all for butting in on this thread but this subject really gets my goat! (love that phrase :rotfl:)

I've been to stores before with my younger sister who has been id'd - she's 30 and always carries her photocard driving licence with her just in case. (I never get id'd :()

My question is why do stores accept the photocard of a driving licence? As you say the 2005 Licensing Act states one of the acceptable forms of id is your full driving licence - therefore shouldn't they ask that you show both paper counterpart and card part of your licence as one without the other is not a valid or full licence. The card also has an expiry date for the photograph after which the card is invalid - is this date checked too?

I have no driving licence (I have a provisional but this is not accepted as it is not a full driving licence), I do not have a passport and see no reason to get one other than if I want to travel outside the UK. Think 25 in my opinion (I know maybe not everyone's and I'll probably be blasted for saying so) is just another way of the government getting everyone to have an ID card and being big brother!

But as I've already said I never seem to get asked for ID anyway - I've depressed myself now!!!!!!

Regardless of who lists them there are forms of ID deemed acceptable.

Trading Standards and the council seeing one issues the license and the other monitors the sellers hold enough weight to justify using their acceptable forms of ID.

Aslo you can make wine sauce without boiling it, maybe the seller thought this was a possibility?

Not a chance of BUYING a Chicken in Wine sauce - without it already being pre-cooked or pre-boiled, it's pretty basic common sense that. - You could always ADD more wine later.

Maybe the seller thought Fresh Apples need ID'ing too, just in case they inadvertently become Cider ;). Maybe the seller also thought the possibility of adding vodka to coke, being sure to also add "coke=ID", to this list of "possibilities".

However you cannot buy a Chicken in White Wine Sauce, that contains a fresh raw chicken, swimming in a vat of Chardonnay. (whatever planet you come from)

Its far more likely the seller DIDN'T think at all, they just looked aimlessly at the till pinging "ID Check", and brainlessly said ................

In which case the alcohol content would be shown on the packaging.

BTW, have you any idea how disgusting a tomato based cooking sauce would taste without the alcohol being cooked off?

I don't like carrying my passport around with me, so I use my provisional driving licence as ID, and it has never been refused anywhere (pubs, bars, supermarkets). If you read the links UK2010 posted, they both just say photo driving licence - there's no mention that it needs to be full, rather than provisional.

Lots of people seem to be saying provisional licences aren't acceptable... is there a source for that?
