It might not say it in the licensing act but it might be included in a restriction on licenses issued which would mean it is covered by the Licensing Act even though they are not specifically mentioned. It is usually in the section about protecting children, it has been in every Premises License that I have held through different councils.

Thanks for the clarification, Storck; appreciate you taking the time to explain the difference and the reasoning here in a reasonable, mature way - very helpful.

So you still think a 30 yr old needs to keep ID on them in case they buy a tomato based sauce then.....

If I went out to buy a chicken sauce now at 33 I wouldn't think I'd need ID. If I got asked ID I'd be able to cope a lot better than you and some of the others would on here.

    That is my point!

With respect, you're talking utter rubbish, and don't address any of the questions people on here have asked you as you try to wriggle out being called on the fearsomely ill-informed nonsense you've been spouting in this thread.

These considerations apart, though - excellent point, well done! :T

The sale of all products containing alcohol will be restricted by all main retailers. The even includes as I've said chocolates. The staff won't want to get into trouble. This sort of thing is also checked by mystery shoppers. The staff are going to want to protect themselves and their jobs.

As I said judging age is a matter of perception. Your view of how old you look is unique to you, someone else might think something completely different.

Bread contains alchohol (except soda Bread), I have never heard anyone being id'd trying to buy bread.

Therefore your statement about all products containing alchohol is false.

Therefore you talk mince and can not be taken seriously on any issue.

    When buying Beef n Ale Pie or Chicken White Wine Sauce, Sherry Trifle, Brandy Schnapps, Shandy, Baileys Drinking Chocolate, Wine Gums, Apples or Rum Truffle's, please be prepared to produce one or ALL of the following;

What are acceptable forms of proof of age?
    • Passport
    • Driving licence (photographic element)
    • Translink SmartPass
    • Citizen Card
    • Firearms Certificate
    • Works pass
    • Sports club pass
    • National Identity Card
    • Student Card
There is no nationwide standard ID card available at present; however the Home Office is considering introducing compulsory ID cards for everyone in the future. This means that different organizations may accept some forms of ID and not others. Follow our advice on what is an acceptable form of ID
    passLogo-282.gif
    • Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) - This is a national proof of age scheme. A proof of age card within this scheme can be identified by having a PASS hologram on it.
    • UK photo driving license - A UK photo style driving license can be used as an acceptable form of ID as it includes a photo, your date of birth and is not easily forged.
    • Passport - A passport can be used as an acceptable form of ID. Passports are expensive to obtain and are very important so we recommend that you consider obtaining a PASS card.
    PASS Scheme
The UK's national guarantee scheme for proof-of-age cards.
What is not acceptable proof of age?
    • NUS/Student card – This card usually has your picture and even your date of birth on it, however it is still not considered acceptable because it is easy to fake.
    • Birth certificate - This document is often needed in life when starting a new job or applying for a Passport. This document however is generally not proof of ID or proof of your age as the document does not include a picture.
    • Bills - Bills do not prove you are the person that you say you are because they do not contain your picture. They are often needed though to prove your name and address.
Additional forms of identification are to be accepted by licensees from January 1.

Under the Licensing (Evidence of Age) Regulations 2009 approved by Tynwald at its final sitting of the year, new identity cards issued by the UK Government will be acceptable forms of proof of age in 2010 as well as passports and European driving licences. Proof of Age cards produced by Isle of Man secondary schools and the Office of Fair Trading continue to be accepted.

Home Affairs Minister Adrian Earnshaw said: ‘In drafting the new regulations, the opportunity was taken to update the design of the school proof of age cards. The intention was to be helpful by widening the range of cards that are acceptable for identification purposes and the main change will permit licensees to accept additional forms of identification that visitors to the Isle of Man might reasonably expect would be acceptable proof of age. The Foreign National Identity Card is issued by the UK Immigration Office and we may see more of those being presented.’

The regulations replace the Licensing (Evidence of Age) Regulations 2008.

    Acceptable forms of primary identification

    • A passport (which has not been expired for more than two years)
    • An original birth certificate or a certified copy
    • A photographic drivers licence issued by any licensing authority (which has not been expired for more than two years)
    • A Proof of Age card (but not an 18+card)
    • A photo identity card for police or defence force personnel (this excludes identity cards issued to civilians who are employed within these organizations)
    • A current overseas passport
    • A citizenship or naturalisation document or immigration papers issued by the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs
    • A current Document of Identity issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
    • A consular photo identity card issued by the Department or Foreign Affairs and Trade
    Acceptable forms of secondary identification

    • A current credit card or ATM access card issued by a financial institute
    • A current entitlement card issued by a Commonwealth Government department (for example, a NI card or Pension card)
    • A passbook or account statement from a bank, building society or credit union not more than 12 months old
    • A telephone, gas or electricity account not more than 12 months old
    • A water or local rate notice or land valuation notice not more than two years old
    • An electoral enrolment card or other evidence of enrolment not more than two years old
    • Armed Services discharge papers not more than 12 months old
    • A certificate or statement of accomplishment or enrolment from a recognized educational institution
    • A letter, not more than 12 months old, from the principal of a recognized educational institution.
    • A State or Federal Government employee photo identity card

Therefore your statement about all products containing alchohol is false.

Come on, you know exactly what I meant! Which is infact completely true and can be found here http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts2003/ukpga_20030017_en_10#pt7-pb4
Therefore you talk mince and can not be taken seriously on any issue.

I think distorting what I was saying in the way you just did more qualifies you for that rather than me!

Yeast and sugar mixed have the ability to create alcohol. Should someone get stopped if they have both in their basket at the same time?
