    When buying Beef n Ale Pie or Chicken White Wine Sauce, Sherry Trifle, Brandy Schnapps, Shandy, Baileys Drinking Chocolate, Wine Gums, Apples or Rum Truffle's, please be prepared to produce one or ALL of the following;

What are acceptable forms of proof of age?
    • Passport
    • Driving licence (photographic element)
    • Translink SmartPass
    • Citizen Card
    • Firearms Certificate
    • Works pass
    • Sports club pass
    • National Identity Card
    • Student Card
There is no nationwide standard ID card available at present; however the Home Office is considering introducing compulsory ID cards for everyone in the future. This means that different organizations may accept some forms of ID and not others. Follow our advice on what is an acceptable form of ID

    • Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) - This is a national proof of age scheme. A proof of age card within this scheme can be identified by having a PASS hologram on it.
    • UK photo driving license - A UK photo style driving license can be used as an acceptable form of ID as it includes a photo, your date of birth and is not easily forged.
    • Passport - A passport can be used as an acceptable form of ID. Passports are expensive to obtain and are very important so we recommend that you consider obtaining a PASS card.
    PASS Scheme
The UK's national guarantee scheme for proof-of-age cards.
What is not acceptable proof of age?
    • NUS/Student card – This card usually has your picture and even your date of birth on it, however it is still not considered acceptable because it is easy to fake.
    • Birth certificate - This document is often needed in life when starting a new job or applying for a Passport. This document however is generally not proof of ID or proof of your age as the document does not include a picture.
    • Bills - Bills do not prove you are the person that you say you are because they do not contain your picture. They are often needed though to prove your name and address.
Additional forms of identification are to be accepted by licensees from January 1.

Under the Licensing (Evidence of Age) Regulations 2009 approved by Tynwald at its final sitting of the year, new identity cards issued by the UK Government will be acceptable forms of proof of age in 2010 as well as passports and European driving licences. Proof of Age cards produced by Isle of Man secondary schools and the Office of Fair Trading continue to be accepted.

Home Affairs Minister Adrian Earnshaw said: ‘In drafting the new regulations, the opportunity was taken to update the design of the school proof of age cards. The intention was to be helpful by widening the range of cards that are acceptable for identification purposes and the main change will permit licensees to accept additional forms of identification that visitors to the Isle of Man might reasonably expect would be acceptable proof of age. The Foreign National Identity Card is issued by the UK Immigration Office and we may see more of those being presented.’

The regulations replace the Licensing (Evidence of Age) Regulations 2008.

    Acceptable forms of primary identification

    • An Australian passport (which has not been expired for more than two years)
    • An original birth certificate or a certified copy
    • A photographic drivers licence issued by any Australian licensing authority (which has not been expired for more than two years)
    • A Western Australian Proof of Age card (but not an 18+card)
    • A photo identity card for police or defence force personnel (this excludes identity cards issued to civilians who are employed within these organisations)
    • A current overseas passport
    • An Australian citizenship or naturalisation document or immigration papers issued by the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs
    • A current Document of Identity issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (this could be a temporary work visa or an authorisation to work in Australia)
    • A consular photo identity card issued by the Department or Foreign Affairs and Trade
    Acceptable forms of secondary identification

    • A current credit card or ATM access card issued by a financial institute
    • A current entitlement card issued by a Commonwealth Government department (for example, a Medicare card or Pension card)
    • A passbook or account statement from a bank, building society or credit union not more than 12 months old
    • A telephone, gas or electricity account not more than 12 months old
    • A water or local rate notice or land valuation notice not more than two years old
    • An electoral enrolment card or other evidence of enrolment not more than two years old
    • Armed Services discharge papers not more than 12 months old
    • A certificate or statement of accomplishment or enrolment from a recognised educational institution
    • A letter, not more than 12 months old, from the principal of a recognised educational institution.
    • A State or Federal Government employee photo identity card

None of that has gone down widely to any local government level and the only source of this I can find is from the Isle of Man. I don't think you can blame retailers for sticking to current guidelines until something more official is widely known.

Your post number 201 on this thread seems to give it away!
Personally I think your "chicken in white wine that's not been boiled contains alcohol) speaks volumes, and not just to me.

There are recipies for wine sauces that don't involve boiling, you can find them on Google! I actually wrote maybe he thought that rather than I would make a chicken with white wine sauce myself and not boil it!!

Still you havent clicked, you cannot BUY such a product that has not been pre-boiled, it just DOES NOT EXIST apart from in your head. Do you really think there is a Chicken swimming in Alcohol and sealed in a jar here?, when you buy such a sauce, its already been boiled out, it is not in its raw format,

Unless of course you are making your own recipe. Which would involve buying some chicken, some flavourings, oh and a bottle of White Wine. Yep one may ask for ID if I was to do that.

Ive met some pretty gullible people in the past, (those who think a whole sherry trifle can get them drunk), but you really do take the biscuit here, Do you think a Bowl of Punch at a party contains a boxing glove too?

Tip; Cheese n Onion crisps, neither contain Cheese or Onions ;)

The decision to opt for a regional or national card is a personal choice. The important factor is to ensure the card scheme chosen is PASS accredited and that the card carries the unique PASS hologram.

    PASS Scheme
The UK's national guarantee scheme for proof-of-age cards.
    Thanks for info marleyboy.

    http://www.pass-scheme.org.uk/

Around 1.5 million young people hold proof-of-age cards bearing the PASS hologram and numbers are increasing all the time.

Details of the scheme are communicated to retailers by a number of methods including via their trade associations, in trade media, via Trading Standards, etc. To date there are over 1.5 million cards in circulation helping the awareness of the scheme to grow rapidly.

There are no big changes for retailers. They will still be presented with various proof-of-age cards, but those that are genuine will have been accredited by PASS and will carry the logo.
