I've got the speech to text add on. It's not truly hands free as you have to tap the microphone button to start. I think you also have to tap the contact field to fill it in and the message body to fill that in.

The speech recognition works well on texts but I find it is very poor with Google Navigation unfortunately as that would be very useful.
It's my problem, it's my problem

And it's my problem if I have no friends

so does this app ot the native htc version give you true handsfree dialling without touching the device if locked or atleast when it is unlocked status without needing a bluetooth device?

hope you have downloaded the modified version 25 uploaded by the developer a few days ago to remove some bugs in typing urls etc

It doesn't do handsfree dialling. I've yet to fnd an app that will do that but I'm sure someone's locked away in a room with no windows working on it as we speak lol.

I have received a very nice silicon case for my Desire from Ebay for only £2.45 delivered, it is actually for Googles Nexus One version of the phone. Made from a stiffer silicon than normal it is quite thick, very tough and a tight fit, well worth the money.

Amongst the many apps which I now have installed four really stand out for quality and use.

The £5.99 paid version of SportsTracker Pro is excellent for anyone who hikes/runs/rides/skis/sails etc. Within the last week I've tried all the free sports tracking apps and this provides the most functions/data/maps and info you could want. It uploads directly to a website, to Google maps, for export to other devices and even provides live tracking if your family wonder where you have got to. A nice lady even talks to you whilst in use telling you how far you've travelled, at what speed etc etc.

Google Tracks comes a close second, is free and great if you aren't as geeky about all that data.

Dropbox has now been ported to Android and lets you 'drop' files from your PC/Laptop into online storage where the phone can access them immediately. Brilliant, simple, no wires, no bluetooth just very easy to use. Accessing MP3s is a doddle and there is 2gb of storage for free.

Finally for now, Get Pills, if you take meds on a regular basis but are rotten at remembering this is a simple alarm based app which gives you a gentle reminder when you need to take something which keeps you alive :)

It is quite the most bizarre thing to say that a 'phone' has improved my life, especially at my ever increasing age, but I now have ebooks, audiobooks, live TV and Radio, the internet, GPS, Sat Nav, MP3s, a voice language translator (Talk To Me) , a decent camera and video recorder...................all in my pocket and all on one device.

Why anyone would buy any other device at the moment is beyond me.

I'm still confused. You stil have to pay each month and then claim it back. The last claim back isn't until after the contract has finished.

So you will pay £40 for ten months, then if you have saved your two cashbacks, you'll get two months free (from using the cashbacks to pay), and the last month will come back some time afterwards.

How are you only paying for 6 months...

(not trying to pick a fight, just curious, I already got mine for the £10 t-mobile deal and £160 for the phone....)

Not sure if you are trying to wind me up , or confused or just pedantic?:T

Ok so you get £40 at the end of month six, so that covers 4 months at £10 a month not the whole six so you are playing catch up:eek: I think most people just care what they will pay over the term of the contract within reason, but i might be wrong;)

What t-mob £10 deal, how long is that deal???

No, I am genuinely confused in your workings (unfortunately that doesn't always come over in text!!)

ok, so at end of month 6 (although I'm guessing it would arrive in Month 7...!) you'll get your £40, which you are then going to save and take off £10 a month for the next four months? So you'll pay £30 for the next four months... then in month 10 you'll get another £40 back, 2 months left, so you'll pay £10 for the last two months?

You have to be bloomin disciplined to save that cashback for line rental and not think "bloomin heck, I've got £40, I'll go and buy a new xyx etc". I know I certainly wouldn't be able to save such cashback the way you propose! :o

The Tmob £10 deal was well publicised on here but has been removed for a good few weeks now.

It was £10 per month, for 100 mins and 100 texts and unlimited net plus one bolt on. (I currently get 100mins and unlimited texts and unlimited internet). Contract length is 2 years, but for a tenner a month, I'm not really bothered by that! Oh, and the phone was £160, total cost for the 2 years is £400.

That's the deal I'm on (except I took the unlimited landline bolt-on as my freebie). It was increased to £15pm about 3 weeks ago, a couple of weeks after I got it.

I only suggested this course in response to your post! As you were saying that it was only a effective monthly cost, it was a suggestion to show that you would not be without the cashback for the whole year.Personally i would just pay the monthly fee and the cashback would be banked and would go on what ever is needed or wanted at the time! Most likely Beer or the like:beer:

When did you take out that deal, as it works out more expensive than the ones i posted and it is 2 years with a payment of £160 up front plus the £10 a month (if you stick to your mins texts etc) = 280, which is only £45 less than my deal and you will still have 12 months contract and very little mins and texts!!!

So cannot understand why you said what you said:cool::

Hmm but really the 12 month deal is £40 per month... (yes yes it may say the "effective cost" is £30, but when you are paying monthly, you will have to budget for £40).

    12 months for £480.....

I phoned Three yesterday to see what deal they would offer me on the htc desire. (my contract ends in a month and I've been with them since they first launched years ago)
They told me that it wasn't available to existing customers, only new customers!!
I've just spoken to virgin media (Im an existing customer) and they offered

    600 mins
    unlimited texts
    unlimited web (fair useage 1gb)
    free phone
    24 months
    £25 a month

Does this sound like a good deal?

Virgin offerd me exactly the same deal today as an existing Virgin Media customer. They wouldn't improve on that offer at all.

I took that deal out last week but then yesterday noticed the £50 Quidco cashback. I therefore phoned Virgin and explained that whilst I didn't want to, it made sense for me to return my phone cancel my contract and order it again via the Quidco link.

I was amazed when, after consulting a colleague, the lady came back and said we can't do the cashnack but offered to give me my first two months line rental for free.

This means the above deal actually works out at £22.92 per month over 24 months.
