I got my Desire yesterday and so far it's great! But,. can someone explain to me how contacts can be organised?
So far I have about 50 contacts on Google mail, which are all organised great with phone numbers, email, addresses etc. These have synced fine with my phone and I can see them in the contacts list. I also have a load of "Phone" contacts which came from my SIM card. These are contacts which only have phone numbers and I dont have email addresses etc so they aren't, and never have been on google mail. In the contacts application I have deleted all duplicate contacts which were in Gmail and on the SIM, so I have a nice organised list of all contacts - Beautiful!
However, if I go into messages and tap to compose a new message, all contacts are being shown in there, SIM, Phone and Google, so I have a list of sometimes three or more duplictaes. I.e- Amy, 1234567 SIM, Amy 1234567 Google, Amy 1234567 Phone, then Amy Home 7654321 SIM, Amy Home 7654321 Google etc etc!
What I want to see is just contacts like I see in the contacts list and why haven't the contacts been removed from the messages contact list when I removed them from the contacts list? I thought when I deleted them I deleted them from the SIM?
Do I have to ignore all contacts on the SIM and put all contacts in google, even though they don't have email addresses?
Or is there a way to filter what is shown on each list?
Thanks!
I never had this trouble in my trusty Nokia!!
EDIT: Dont worry, I have managed to find the answer. Selecting only Sim contacts, then deleting them all, solves this problem.
amazing how you spend hours trynig to find the answer, ask a question, then solve it yourself straight after!!0 -
Hi, I'm just wondering how good the camera is in real life.
I have 2 kids and don't want to carry a separate camera round with me.
was thinking of the SE W995 but really like the rest of what the desire can do.
I know it won't be as good as a dedicated camera but is it better than iphone camera and would photos be of good enough quality for blogging do you think.
Also have al;ways been on vodafone and thinking of going orange or T-mobile but worried whether signal will be good enough in my area. is there any decent way of finding out as don't want to be tied into a contract with great phone but no signal.
thanks for any help.

Hi Jo.
If you visit the websites of orange/T-mob/o2 etc somewhere on the site will be a link to a network coverage page. There you can get a rough idea of what the signal might be like. Remember you usually have a few days to cancel so if you get one and the reception is bad just do that.
As for myself I'm torn between orange and o2. Orange have a good deal online and it's a nice sexy black colour. But I think their unlimited Internet is 750mb and not sure if you get charged going over.
O2 i'm with at the moment and they might be able to match it and their fair usage is alot higher. But if they can't match orange then I don't know.
Argh choices0 -
djheath,
I exported all the contactss from my old phone to a CSV file and impoerted them into my gmail contacts. It's just simpler that way even though a lot don't have email addresses.
jo70mo,
The camera is pretty good, most of the reviews I've read say it is better than the iPhone one. It won't replace a real camera for me but for quick snaps it is fine. I expect it would be perfectly adequate for blogging, especially as it's very easy to upload photos to Picasa or Flickr etc. directly from your phone.
If you want to check coverage in your area get a free PAYG SIM and stick it in your current phone and see what the signal strength is. You can get a T Mobile from here for example.

Thanks for the replies.Had to do full factory reset and now works fine :-)0

thanks for the replies. having googled around I found a local university forum where someone had asked about coverage on campus and all agreed orange was great. so that helps too.

I phoned orange to get my retention deal. There seems to be a suspicious pattern. I either get offered the deal i want but the phone is out of stock. Or offered a worse deal than i have been offered and phone mysteriously appears in stock. Frustrating.0
