Posted from my Desire.
No.. I used my Apps account as the main account, and nothing has changed. The one Gmail account I had synced as an additional address was already 'gmail.com' rather than 'googlemail.com' as it was set up before the trademark dispute kicked off 5 years ago.
It's annoying this started at the same time though... I suspect Google have broken something somewhere, but as usual there is no way to really discuss it with them.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

A warning to anyone thing of getting a Desire on payg from 3.
You maybe aware that they offer it at £349 on payg, but getting one is just about impossible...
Had to drive past the Cribbs store in Bristol this morning.
Go in, there's the Desire and all the pricing info, payg £349.99.
Ask one of the staff if they have any?
"Yes sir, we have them in stock."
Me "Great. I''ll take 2 on payg'
"Oh, we can't sell them on payg..."
Me "Why?"
Off he goes to the manager and back.
"We can't sell them on payg." (While leaning against the sign that says Desire £349.99 !). They absolutely refused to sell me one on payg !
He then tried to tell me it's cheaper to get one on a contract for 24 months at £22 a month ?
On what planet is £528 cheaper than £349 ?
What business model states that given the option of having nothing in the till or £700, nothing is the better option ?
Are all Three staff trained to treat customers like their idiot's?
I'm at a total lose, I've never come across customer service like it (but it is 3 !).0 -
Don't worry, it's not just you. They won't even give them to existing customers either.0

I've read (on here time after time) how bad they are. Its just such an eye opener when your face to face this level of horrific customer service.
I can't ever remember even hearing about a company that would turn down taking 700 quid off anyone that walked in off the street and offered it to them when they had stock !0 -
Gave up and phoned 3 customer support today, as I still can't autosync email, or download Apps etc. Keep getting "Google Talk Authentication Failed."
The nice chap I spoke to is going to send me a replacement Desire, but I can't see this as fixing the issue as hundreds of people are having the same issue on multiple providers with multiple different handsets.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

you can sort this problem out immediately on your own (and dont forget to tell the morons at tech support at 3 how to solve the problem if they arent aware of the solution!).
you have to go to your googlemail account on your computer. i guess you recently reset it to gmail account. you have to reset it back to googlemail account instead. the googletalk setting on android handsets has not been reset to reflect the change for uk users from googlemail to gmail and android marketplace hence cant be accessed as your handset cant log into the correct acount. there is no facility allowed by google to reset this via the phone, hence the need to reset via computer back to googlemail setting instead of gmail setting. once this is done your phone will work fine. hopefully google will bring a software solution to this problem soon so that this can be done directly via android handsets instead.
hope this work around works for you and if it does please tell the morons at tech support at three how to solve this problem so that they know how to help other customers too, rather than offer replacement handsets and worsen the stock situation for the rest of the three customers!!!
they were supposed to get stock today and send me my desires on monday to be delivered on tuesday.:pbubblesmoney :hello:0 -

There's 2 ways of sorting out this problem. The easy way is to do what you suggest. The other way is to do a factory reset and lose everything on the phone, then start again with your Gmail account.
Personally, I know which one I'm doing.0 -

i guess this might be a problem only for people who typed their googlemail account into the desire but had selected gmail option recently when google offered them this option online
why would you need to lose everything even if you made a factory reset? isnt there a facility to have a backup on a computer incase reset is needed later in case of a malfunction. if htc software doesnt have this option then it might be hightime to look for an app that does this back upbubblesmoney :hello:0 -

You're right about the first point. If you get a new phone now, you can have a gmail address and enter that when you set the phone up. Those of us who got their phone six weeks ago didn't have the option of having a gmail address, only a googlemail one. It's changing this from googlemail to gmail that seems to be the problem.
I have no idea why you lose everything when you do a factory reset. I read it on HERE0 -
i read it here. see in the comments to that article by someone named munkeycop http://mashable.com/2010/05/04/googlemail-gmail-uk/bubblesmoney :hello:0
