I've been trying to get the Desire on Virgin since yesterday, but the website isn't working and when I phoned them, they tried charging me a fiver more than it states in their press release (I'm an existing Virginmedia customer)

    Anyone else had any luck?

Did you try to get retentions department to match the t-mobile deals?

Looking on their page for the Desire, one of their tariffs appears to be:
24 months @ £20 for 400m mins/UL texts, NO Internet plus £399.99 for the phone. This must be an error surely?

well I got the Tmobile £10 deal and £160 for the handset, but being as that's unlimited internet and unlimited texts I'm quite happy to be honest.

When I first got on the phone though I was told that that offer wasn't on anymore, it was only after I said it was still on the website I was given it!

So be warned, if you want the £10 tmobile deal, get in sooner rather than later!!!

Vodafone Desire news, apparently guaranteeing delivery by the 8th:
The HTC Desire launches on 8 April and will be available for free on monthly contracts from £30 (24-month contract), with 600 minutes (900 minutes if you order online), unlimited texts and 500MB of mobile internet.

    Thinking of getting Desire.

Looking at T-Mobile on Quidco, the business cashback is £60 for the £20/month plan i'm looking at, compared to £35 cashback for normal users.

Does anyone know the criteria you need to order from business, because the prices are the same once VAT is added?
    BTW i'm self-employed anyway.

I called them yesterday the 'Sales' team could only offer me £20 p/m for 24 month term with £100 for the handset, although first two months are free, it's still not competitive compared to T-Mobile, which is a shame. All other deals as per the website. Which considering how much I spend each month for their TV, Phone and BB is quite shocking.

Asked for my PAC and, a very nice girl advised me to try adding my Virgin Media acct number via the Virgin Mobile site, as this should reveal the offers available to me, problem is the site keeps crashing when I do this.

Silly question...if the internet is 'always on' there must be a way of turning it off?. I don't want a huge bill after my holiday to France soon!!

    @ Tony M

On my hero you can tell the phone not to connect to data services when roaming... that would solve the problem and I would assume that is available on the Desire too.

Well there you go finally took the plunge I could wait no longer.

Called the first time (welsh contact centre) and the girl I spoke to was not very helpful "sorry we cant budge on the handset price it will be £129 how does that sound?" not very good I said and swiftly hung up. :(

Even though I had mentioned the cashback deals and discounts I had seen she didnt budge.

So I waited for 5 minutes and composed myself for call number 2, phoned through and again the welsh contact centre. Oh no I thought, until I spoke to the lovely emma.

Told her I was interested in the 300min/texts for 24mths @ £15 she said the handset for that price plan is £129.

Oh I said is there any discount on the handset she replied em maybe I have not used much of my discounts today wait a minute. She put me on hold for 2 minutes and returned to say I was getting it for £89.99. :j

Happy happy days in the space of five minutes saved £40 and dont have to use cashback sites.

At the time she said there were no stock and she would call me when they came in.

Got a callback an hour later saying the phone was in stock and I am getting it delivered on saturday woop woop

SAVER007: Were you coming to the end of your contract, or were you asking as a new customer for the discount?
  • The deals offered in the press release are probably better than T-mobiles (for existing Virgin Media customers), but the call centre don't appear to have read the press release and would not budge on price even when I quoted the offers directly from the document! The part of the website for existing customers is still not working, so I can't get a deal online. Grrr! I can't put a link in as I don't have enough posts, but the below is a direct quote from the Virgin press release "Virgin Media Shakes Up Mobile Market" , dated 29/03/10

"On the new Pay Monthly range, customers will be able to get a handset such as the forthcoming HTC Desire for free on an exceptional £30 per month tariff complete with 800 minutes and unlimited texts and web over 24 months. Existing Virgin Media customers will be able take it on a £25 tariff offering 600 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited web, but also benefit from unlimited calls to other Virgin Mobiles, and free calls from home phones to Virgin Mobiles".

It goes on to say that existing customers can get an equivalent 18 month deal for £30 a month.

Did you try to get retentions department to match the t-mobile deals?
