I asked the chappie looking after the place if I could have it, he said " If you can reach it, you can have it":D Now these skips are like sugmerged basins with big rails all round them. It's a big reach for a wee woman and I am very very wee.
So he didn't offer to get it for you then? I don't know what these people working at tips are paid for - I took some speakers recently to our tip and asked one of the fellas there if he could help me as they were a bit heavy "we're not allowed to lift heavy things" he said - so it's ok for a woman but not for a man? I think they only get the jobs there so they can get the pick of any decent stuff which is brought in  Rant over.0 -
hey just a mum
(otherwise known as the hardest job EVER I reckon)
I think the whole tip thing is 2 sided. In our society today - sad as it is, its about covering yourself. Its one of the reasons I left nursing, If I didnt write it down i didnt do it...I could have fluffed up a zillion pillows to make a patient comfy and a million other things that seem simple to some., but are a life comfort to others, yet if i didnt write that i did what was a simple minute by minute comfort task, then i didnt do it. Its about liability. all to sadly. Tip worker has his rules and if he breaks them, and injures himself, unfirtunately, he is liable and is only looking after himself according to what he is told. Just like, if you collapse in front of me of a heart attack, and I do cpr and in the process break one of your riibs, you can sue me. You would be dead if i hadnt helped...but i saved your life yet you can sue me for pain... is that right? would i walk past you knowing that?
whats a job worth and what are the restrictions on that job in real termsI will pay jexygirl the compliment of saying that she invariably writes a lot of sense!0 -

Ds got married b4 xmas and I got a new wallis dress and jacket for £14 off ebay, new dorothy perkins shoes with stickers on for £5 from cs and a new Elizabeth Arden handbag for 99p from cs.I had loads of compliments on my outfit. My neighbour paid £2,000 for her outfit when her son got married:eek:
and I think I looked just as good as she did.:T0 -
Hi all. Just wanted to say I agree with Jexygirl about the sad state of today's society. I suppose I am just 'old fashioned' but still preferred the time when folk used a bit of common sense and made their own decisions instead of having rules laid down for us.0

I was just congratulating pepsimax on her wedding outfit find and thought I might begin looking out in our tiny CS for a wedding oufit for myself. Lo and behold! I find a b/tex petite suit with floaty skirt that fits like a dream ( Petite styles are not that easy to find). It cost the grand sum of £8
All I have to find in a nice jacket to match and a sumptuous hat. I may have to buy the hat in a proper sh*p - dread the thought.0 -
some wood for the woodburner, free, from a recently pleached hedge."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0

Whereabouts are you, what colour is it & what colour jacket & hat do you have in mind? Maybe we could all keep our eyes open for you?!
Well, that's very sweet of you:A
It's a brown and plum floral, so I think I would be looking for plum colour jacket in a spring/summer weight material, or velvety. I am a size 14-16 and definitely not tall or willowyCream might go well too. I live near Cribbs Causeway in Bristol.
I do think that the jacket will turn up ,but really am quite happy to purchase a nice hat. John Lewis is on my doorstep.0 -

We have the same problems in school, too. Not allowed to give children a plaster on a grazed knee, etc. in case they're allergic to the adhesive. have to fill in a mountain of paperwork if anyone falls over at playtime to cover ourselves.... it takes away from what we got into our professions for... caring and/or educating people...0 -
Last night the landlord of the club where we drink before football gave us each a pen/torch he had had made with his email and phone number on. Really good quality. IN fact he gave us one ages ago and I am still using that one..What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0
