Then mum did her cupboard out this morning and brought me a bag of bits, lots of options drink sachets, 2 tins of condensed mushroom soup, 2 jars of cooking sauces, 3 tins of mackerel and 1 of ox tongue. Also some cranberry sauce, onion chutney and tomato chutney. Great!!

  • My mum passed on a voucher she had got for a reflexology session to me. When I when to the foot clinic I explained that the hard skin on my feet meant the reflexology would be useless!! The girl let me swap it for a deluxe pedicure!! Was well chuffed!!!

Yesterday was a great day for OS bargains. Our local Tesco was closing down because a new bigger one was opening up today over the road. Food hygiene regs meant they couldn't just carry the fresh produce over the road and a friend who works there suggested it would be worth my time to come in in an hour or so before closing. Well yes, it was. Every last item of bakery, fruit, veg, meat, dairy etc was being marked down irrespective of date by 75% or so. Even the chicken rotisserie counter was working flat out because they couldn't take the uncooked chicken supplies to the new shop.
Surprisingly there were hardly any shoppers in there so I grabbed a trolley and got on with it. I spent £40 and came out with enough meat, cheese, butter and freezer stuff to last me two months and enough veg, fruit and bakery to last me a weeks or ten days. I only stopped because I knew I didn't have room in the freezers for any more! There was still food left on the shelves as they closed the doors. I hope they just gave it to the staff rather than bin it. But even my cats got in on the act...a bowlful of fresh cooked chicken each, nom!

  • I've had a very good frugal day today!

First my Mum came round with the latest Gardener's World mag (3rd hand, how I like it :D ) and a new set of fairy lights to replace mine that got damaged in the flood we had. Then I visited my friend and came away with some lovely pressies from her trip to France and three bags of scrummy fabric (some of which I will pass on to my Mum...keep the karma going!) which included three huge lined Sanderson curtains - absolutely gorgeous fabric and now hung on my landing and over the front door to keep the cold out and make me smile at their prettiness when I go downstairs.

Ooooh they look lovely Bob :)

My frugal find was a freebie pint to share with OH as the barmaid had pulled the wrong one for somebody so she offered it to us rather than throwing it away - nice lady :D and 5p that I 'rescued' from the bar towel

This morning my sister dropped her dog off as she is off on 2 weeks holiday while they have the builders in. She also brought 3 large carrier bags of fruit, veg and fridge contents (and this sister doesn't buy cheap & cheerful) :T:T.

This afternoon, popped over to a friends and she gave me a huge Costco lasagne (£8+) as she had bought too many for a family do and didn't want to eat it again. Result! :D.
