How many of you blame you OH for just being 'men'?!

i'd be interested in how many women check the tyre pressure of the car, check the oil and water and make sure the car is serviced etc. again this is not just a 'woman' thing. it's to do with education and cultural expectation. technically it's no harder to change a duvet cover or bake a cake than it is to check the oil but for some reason many women think it's not something they can manage.
When I had a car, I took care of everything required to run it. I can also put together Ikea furniture, mow a lawn and do most basic DIY. Shocking, I know, I've quite frequently been the only unaccompanied female in B&Q!
Maybe I'm lucky in that both mine and OH's parents prepared us for living on our own, rather than assuming we would end up with an opposite sex partner and only teaching us about the 'gender appropriate' tasks!
If my OH expected me to do anything around the house that he wasn't prepared to do just on the basis of me having ovaries he'd be out the door pretty fast!0 -

I only know women that do this, unless your thinking kicking a tire is checking it. :rotfl:
And it's only the guys I know who manage to run their engines dry cos they forget to check the oil. Or don't fill up the petrol. Or use a map/ask for directions.
I thought the sterotype was men kept their cars sparklie clean and always polished but don't do the day to maintanence to keep it on the road.0 -
FWIW most of the men in my life have been naturally tidier than me, but I am more clean freaky..i.e. they will fold the blankets, where as I will not, but will wash them regularly instad of folding them and leaving hem neat but increasingly grubby. DH will merrily hoover regularly, but never clean skirting boards or light switches and when I put something away its put in a place, and really organise,d not just..put away out of sight....which takes longer and means things loo messy till I've done it but makes my life easier. As a result most of the men I've known, if living alone would never have a mad ten minutes when a friend called asking if they could pop in..where as I almost always do, and I need o allow five or sominutes every night to put things away before going to bed...but I don't think its necessarily male/female.
I check oil, I prefer someone else to do tyres...mainly laziness though, I can and have done it weekly myself.0 -

Where on earth did you find this specimen. Are you sure he is male
HAHAHAHA:rotfl:He is definitely male:D
It doesn't happen all that often mind you, and is usually brought about by our 4yo bugging him to find a car/toy/lego piece which has gone down the back. Ditto!
When I did my driving test, knowing how to check the oil, water, tyres etc, is now part of the test, so I was taught by my instructor (and my Father - in case I 'forgot'! lol).
And, I actually enjoy DIY. So, if I don't know how to do something, and OH does, I ask him to show me so that I can also do it in future or if he's away.
But, I was quite the tomboy when I was younger, so have always been interested in the DIY part. And always wanted to be able to do this stuff myself. I guess it depends on your upbringing/experiences in life.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
Look, ladies .... don't you think that the sooner we all accept that it's always the mother-in-law's fault that her darling son is such a pain to live with, as well as the fact that men are a totally different species, the happier we'll all be?0

seems that are quite a few of us that do.
For the record I do all the gardening, put out the bins each week, make sure all the insurances for the house/cars etc are up to date.
I also work full time.We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.0 -
my OH is exactly the same leaves trail of mess wherever he goes, annoys the life out of me. One example is when i was in hospital after have ds by c-section, he was home alone and said to me i've tidied up and everything is ok for when you come home. few days later i come home and look in a cupboard and there stuffed in the cupboard is all the dirty washing he had just picked it up and stuffed it anywhere he could find space. I don't think all men are like this as my dad cooked nearly all our meals and cleaned up.0
