'American Style' Samsung Fridge Freezer (merged threads)

As I expected, a manager (type) 'phoned earlier to confirm they WOULD NOT be able to install the replacement evaporator panel or any thermal fuses citing my "modification" as having invalidated my warranty.
This is the warranty that expired three months after they fitted a replacement evaporator panel 18 months after purchase.
It would appear that, having tried to get a paid-for repair back in Dec 2006 and failing miserably to find a company who would fit the part my only option would have been to place the unit to one side - unused - awaiting a possible Watchdog program and the offer of an extended warranty/retro-fit.
Sadly, I partially fixed the problem and my fan's lasted longer than either of the original Samsung products previously installed.
The manager I spoke to just recently admitted having no knowledge of the parts involved in the Watchdog agreement and hence would not accept that whilst I'd only changed the fan I'd not touched in any manner the thermal fuses.
I'm left with the feeling that Samsung is not a company I'd EVER wish to become involved with again. Their treatment of past customers, even those who brought to their attention in writing the faults inherent in their product (way before Watchdog's program) is, to be blunt, shameful.0 -

Hi MikeI then partially fixed the problem myself and posted my solution on a couple of web sites devoted to this issue.
In essence, my fan had failed completely - probably as a result of the ice build-up over time. I removed the fan from the assembly (this assembly being only months old at that stage) and installed a similar sized fan from a PC. The wires for this were passed through the rear of the evaporator cover, out through the gap between the door and side of fridge and into a d.c. transformer able to power the fan at 12v, 9v, 7.5v etc. It has run since then (20 months or so) and provided me with the ability to continue using the FF until Samsung responded to the Watchdog program
Your fan DID NOT fail ! If it did then its the first FAN I would have seen in the past 5 years that has failed. In actual FACT it was the evaperator insulation that STOPPED the fan and when this happens the electronics pick this fact up and cuts the power until it is freed.
As a samsung engineer I would also refuse to touch your appliance due to the dangerous modifications that you have carried out and even advised other people that may have NO electrical knowledge to carry out.In my opinion you are a danger to yourself and others. This you have been previously advised on other forums.
As for the SAMSUNG warranty that has been extended. The warranty is a LIMITED parts warranty only and does NOT cover the whole appliance.

hi, i also have a samsung rs21dcsv, i was warned that they have a fault from someone who works for currys, but they did say that if it was going to "pack-up" it would do so in the first 2-3 weeks of purchase!
however, i have had mine for 5 years now, so can't complain!
but, as a few have stated, 4-5 weeks ago, a funny buzzing noise started. stopped when i opened fridge, started when i shut it. food it going off quicker as it's not cold enough etc... having read the post by pmat, i will now have my other half having a look at the back of the fridge tomorrow, but will try and contact samsung to see what they say.
thank-you pmat for the suggestion and will post what happens x0 -
Hi all new to this forum, hope you can help. My friend has a RS21WCNS American style. After 3 consecutive power cuts, his F/Freezer trips out his consumer unit(not the breaker). If I remove the plug on the circuit board to the draw heaters/defroster and then plug in the power stays on. If I then reconnect the plug on the circuit board the the appliance works ok, for several hour. Then the fault reoccurs. The warranty has just run out. Any help would be very welcome. Thanx.0

After mine was refused warranty by Samsung as it was the earlier model that had the same symptoms but the problem was "nothing like the one on later models", I had to ditch it and purchased a new fridge freezer. I went for a Hotpoint as I now wouldn't touch Samsung with a bargepole and tell everyone who will listen the same. There was a Samsung I could have had that was cheaper than the Hotpoint, but that wasn't the point.:hello:0

I've had my RS21 Samsung fridge freezer for around 4 years but now I'm getting the same problem as everyone else; the unit is making a loud clicking noise (catching fan I assume) and the fridge is not getting below 10°C.
I'm currently in the middle of attempting the fix highlighted on howtomendit.com:
http://www.howtomendit.com/answers.php?id=45097
Basically turn your unit off for 48 hours to let it fully defrost and to dissipate all the ice build up.
I'm turning it back on tonight so I'll let you know how it goes.
Also here's an article from when the RS21 Fridge Freezer was exposed on watchdog0 -
Why people buy an American Fridge Freezer for someone who is mainly associated with TV's and Mobile Phones is beyond me...
You get what you pay for: if you want it to last 2 or 3 years, then pay £600 for a Samsung or LG
If you want it to last 20+ years, pay £2-3K for a Maytag, Sub-Zero, Neff or Siemens
Rant over :-DIf it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Why anyone wants OLD appliances, is beyond me!!
Not in favour of throwing things away, for fashion sense, but I'd like to think the more up to date something is, the better chance of having as efficient as possible, would be there!
Not always the case, I know, but white goods DO date in looks, as well as their working ability.

Quite true vansboy, but I thought this was a money saving website, not Changing Rooms!!! :rotfl:If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands
