'American Style' Samsung Fridge Freezer (merged threads)

Had an engineer out several times last year on our RS21 (the freezer kept defrosting). Finally was told that it had been fixed but anyway, we were covered by the 5 year extended warranty.
Got up this morning and the freezer side had defrosted. Same problems as last year. Switched it off at the plug and then back on (as advised last year). Eventually got it working again.
Rang Samsung and was initially told that they couldn't do anything as it was working again. Spoke to a member of "escallation team" and was fobbed off with warranty terms and conditions by a very rude person.
As my husband has just come out of hospital after a heart attack, eventually had to hang up!!. I could do without the hassle.
In my experience Samsung UK do not have any customer service and the best place for an RS21 fridge/freezer is somewhere where to sun doesn't shine (preferably choosing one of their so called customer services team).
We have also had problems with a Samsung Plasma TV. Their products are Ok until something goes wrong, then you are on you own. Best to avoid!!0 -
we had samsung american fridge freezer no water dispenser,,we had buzzing noise also,, got engineer out , who basically defrosted it,and it was ok for a short while, then noise started agin,it seems tht th doors r to heavy for the hinges ,meaning tht the freezer is not sealing right and has to work at full power all the time to frreze ,then ice a builds up then noise,,was told it was cheaper to get new fridge freeze rather than get it repaired,,as engineer would not garantee that in a cpl years time same thing would not happen again0

inside strip out the bottom plastic panel, you will see the fan in the panel. if it is frozen get a hair dryer and defrost it. if it still doesn't work you can buy a replacement, as i did, on e-bay for £19.99 + postage.(£65 from anywhere else). they seller is called ctiycooling. as long as the drain off is defrosted and the fan is free-moving bob's your uncle. :T0

I have a problem with my Samsung American Fridge Freezer, this morning the freezer temperature display was flashing -20 and all the frozen food has gone soft and looks like the fridge section has stopped cooling aswell?
Anyone got any ideads what it could be?0 -
Well I'm very impressed with Samsung!!!
We've had our RS21NCNS for 4 and a half years (bought Nov 2004) so when it started making a noise this weekend I thought it was going to be expensive!
I'd read some of the entries on this thread, so knew there was an issue but thought our fridge would be beyond any criteria.
I rang the support number (0845 7267864) shown on the Samsung website. I deliberately didn't mention that I'd seen there was a known issue. They took various details then told me that because of the problem with this range of fridges the guarantee on some parts had been extended to 5 years.
She took me to the Samsung support webpage which I can't post here because I'm a newbie, but basically it is Samsung UK/support/FAQS then enter the model number in option 1. Scroll down and click on page 2. Click on question 12 to give me more information and a form to complete. She then booked an engineer to come out tomorrow.
I'll reserve final judgement until the engineer has been tomorrow, but so far, I'm very impressed:T:T:T
Definitely worth trying this BEFORE any DIY repairs.

Hello, new to this so hope I'm posting it correctly! I have a black Samsung fridge freezer it's only 2 years old. The water dispenser has stopped working and the fridge has started freezing! I have tried getting an engineer to help me fix it but nobody will touch it
Does anybody have any suggestions at all? I'd be really grateful if anyone could help me. Thank you very much.

Take out the extended warranty from Domestic and General and call them out, probably cost between £90 to £150 for the year for an American Fridge Freezer.0 -
Hi, I have an RS20 4 year old samsung FF. yesterday we noticed that the freezer had completely defrosted itself despite the fact the temperature readout was still displaying -20freezer and 2fridge. I called samsung who told me it obviously was not covered under warranty, but advised me to switch it off and on again as they sometimes 'need resetting'!! I did turn off at the plug and on again, the temperature displays both went to +20. it started cooling again but obviously we have lost all the food in both fridge and freezer! Has anyone else experienced this? any ideas how to prevent it? (Samsung are obviously aware of it!)0

Thought i'd add my experience.
last week went to get some ice our of my Samsung American style fridge/freezer, and water just came out, thought that was odd, so check the freezer and the thaw had startedalso the fridge, but luckily it had only happened around 6 hours i guess, we could save most of the food.
The temp lights at the front was still showing correct temp as if the unit was working, but of course it was not. switch off & on again and the true read outs were displayed
Checks warranty and we are in, just - Phewwwww.
Phone Samsung and gets an engineer out (friday), he says it dead, you need a new one, great we thought, but when Samsung rang back on the Monday they say it could be up to 28days. But if we go down where we bought it from they could do a credit arangement and get one within a few days.
Now Currys (where we bought it from) the price we payed was £665 for this in just under 2 years ago. The same model is now £750
Phoned back Samsung and they say i would have to pay the difference - LoL - So i told them that's rediculous and if we have to wait 28 days for this model we want a tempory unit in it's place. - I am awaiting the phone call as I had the old chestnut "I'll have to speak to my manager about that and get back to you"
Also we explained that my wife is 8+ month pregnant and we really need a fridge for obvious reasons!
We will see.....
Just a quick question from my rant
Will the new replacement unit come with a full 2 year warranty? or will we have the 1 month remaining on the old one transferred?
Thanks for any help!0 -
My Samsung RS21DPSM bought 3 years ago has just kicked off, the buzzing from the fan, and no water (though the ice maker runs fine). Just called them, and will have a bloke here Monday, all covered by the warranty. The warranty now runs for 5 years on these models, the woman that spoke to me was lovely - friendly, efficient and informative as to my rights, no worries now.
I admit to loving my American side-by-side FF, can't see being without it now, so happy they can sort it for me, and so quickly too. Nice one! :T0
