Well, he didnt want tea or biscuits, but he arrived at 7.30, fitted the modified panel and I am a happy happy person !
Cannot fault Samsung despite others experiences, they dealt with my problem quickly and with no hassle...even arranging an early call out so I could get to work on time!
Oh and my RS21 is 4 years and 11 months old .....thank goodness for this site....saved me yet again !YNWA JFT96 :A0 -
My RS21 DCNS is 5 years old on Saturday!
Sure enough it went wrong last month with the "Watchdog - fridge not cooling" problem and after a lengthy battle with Samsung to prove that the warranty finishes when 5 years from when I bought it NOT when it was manufactured, they finally sent someone round to replace the faulty fan unit.
Sure enough - the very unhelpful guy replacing the unit "found" another problem preventing the fan from running properly. He says the control board is not working properly and will cost £250 min to replace - this is conveniently not covered by the warranty and he happens to have one in his van.
Anyway, after a lengthy one sided chat, I sent him packing. I've since had someone independent look at it (a great bloke who fixed our NEW washing machine - after our last one went bang in July (what a great summer we are having)) - anyway he said he's seen lots of faulty Samsung RS21's and never one with a faulty control board.
Bottom line - 5 year warranty officially expires in 2 days - fridge not cooling below 14 degrees - wife & kids unhappy - Samsung digging heals in and not budging - I REALLY don't want to give Samsung ANY money - £250 is a lot of money for a product out of warranty.
Anyone else had their RS21 "repaired" and find that a fault still exists?
Should I stick or twist - should I pay Samsung and get it repaired, or hunt around for a new LG on interest free (is there such a thing as interest free anymore???)
Advice and an idea where to buy another non Samsung American Fridge Freezer most appreciated!0 -
Sorry to hear of all the problems you have been having with Samsung american style fridge freezers - especially since I have an RSH1NHMH, silver, product code 86555353 on order from John Lewis at £553.
Firstly, this model has no water cooler (we thought we wouldn't use it, drinking only tea, coffee or alcohol in this household!). Does anyone know of any likely problems with it?
Secondly, we ordered it on 30 July, with a supposed 5 week delivery. Surprisingly for John Lewis they have been very poor in keeping us informed of progress on the delivery. They were out of stock for a while and JL offered us an "upgrade" to one with a water cooler - which we declined. A delivery eventually took place last Friday - but it had a very obvious dent in it (and the packaging was not affected, so it had clearly been packed in the factory like that) and we sent it back. I am still waiting to hear when a replacement will come and am beginning to think the whole thing is jinxed!
Any views from all you helpful MSE people?
kind regards

So it's a whole week now since the damaged fridge freezer they attempted to deliver went back - and still no news of when they might deign to send another - what's happening to John Lewis these days?

After following the threads on this forum, I phoned Samsung stating the noisy fan/lack of cooling, a very nice lady informed that they where aware of the design fault and the Engineer would visit and make a slight modification, and I would be also be covered with a free 5 year warranty. (I did not purchase one at point of sale). The engineer called today replaced the Assembly Cover Evaporator in the fridge compartment and told me the modification is to direct some of the warm air over the fan therefore hopefully keepng it functioning correctly, and also a new sensor. For all those who have done their own running repairs, he also stated that "Just turn it off for 2 days and it will defrost on its own" So maybe this statement could be used if there is no ice/cooling problem when the engineer calls.0

Bought the samsung rs21 fridge/freezer jan 07, the worst purchase i have ever made. Three months ago experienced the loud noise coming from the fridge compartment and then the fridge then stopped working overnight, so i lost a fridge full of food.Went online and did my research to find the product had been on watchdog. Rang samsung straight away they sent an engineer to fix the fault. Since then I have had 2 leaks appear one from the bottom of the salad draw the other from the freezer door, rang samsung again the said they would send an engineer again. He came but could only diagnose one leak which needed a new part(something to do with the where the water drains away) he said someone will be around next week to fix the new part. The day after a really load noise started then stopped after four days and then came back twice as loud, and i then noticed the back had frozen up again! Been two weeks since i heard from the engineer so gave samsung another ring i asked to speak to a senior member, i told how unhappy i was with their product he said only the engineer can sign off the fridge to get a refund or replacement, spoke to the engineer this morning he said he is not willing to sign off the fridge as this part will fix all the problems! I don't think i can take much more!!0

Any comments from you helpful people on this fax to John Lewis, which I plan to send tonight (unless they actually do call before 6pm!)
I have just waited in all day, again, because your customer services department told me NYK Logistics, would call today, Thursday, to arrange the delivery of my Samsung side by Side Fridge Freezer. Yet again, they have not.
As you will see from the record of my calls to your department this order has been an absolute disaster from the beginning, as follows:
the first confirmation email said “NYK Logistics, will telephone you within 7 working days of placing your order to arrange a date for delivery.” They didn‘t, and when I called you to find out why I was told “oh the email is wrong, we have been trying to get it changed”
delivery was going to take longer than the originally quoted 5 weeks so you offered me an “upgrade” to a fridge freezer with a water cooler - I had ordered this item specifically because it didn’t have a water cooler, so said I would wait for what I had ordered
when it was eventually delivered on 19 September it never got as far as the door because they found a significant dent in it once they removed the packaging
the delivery men said NYK would call me that afternoon - they still haven’t. They also said they had plenty of stock just delivered - obviously they had more important customers than me (or John Lewis) because I am still waiting
your customer service staff told me I would get a call last week (they now say they were misled). When I called them this week they said I would get a call today - still no call
you charged my John Lewis Credit Card for the fridge freezer on 14/15 August and I have now had to pay the bill (I always pay in full). The order confirmation email says “your payment will not be processed until it is ready to be despatched”. When I queried this with your staff, objecting that I was paying for it before any of us know when it is going to be delivered, more than 2 months since the original order, I was told (again) “oh the email is wrong we have been trying to get it changed.”
I now wish to escalate the numerous problems with my order to a senior manager. Please review what has happened, find out when I can expect delivery, and meet the standards of service (and compliance with the terms of our contract as outlined in your emails to me) that it is reasonable to expect from John Lewis.

I'm right with you. Samsung point blank refused to sort my fridge fan problem after it still didn't work even though it had had the "watchdog" fix done to it. They wanted £230 to change the main pcb - which I was told "must" be the problem.
Rather than give Samsung or their engineers any money I sourced a new PCB for £85. Fitted it today and low and behold not only does the fridge not work, but the freezer doesn't work either. Put the old PCB in but no different - no fridge / no freezer.
It's pointless talking to Samsung as frankly I don't believe they know what they are talking about and they just want to recoup some cash for all the "freebie" repairs they are carrying out.
I've had 4 1/2 good years with my £800 fridge - but the last 6 weeks have ruined it. My parents have a fridge that has run for 20+ years with no problems - people tell me fridge freezers should only last 5 years - please tell me that's not the best I can hope for?
I'm not spending that kind of money again, and I'm definitely not buying Samsung - anyone any ideas how I can fill this gaping hole in my kitchen?0 -

No, it's not.
But if you want one that will last 20 years you will pay for it.
What I'd ask is, what did your parents pay for that old one 20 years ago, how many weeks wages was it? Now consider, relatively, what you paid for a Samsung four years ago.
Then consider, does the 20 year old one have an icemaker, is it the same size, does it have electronic controls, frost free fanning, defrost heaters, thermistors and all the other features that people buy these sort of machines for? I'd wager it doesn't.
Appliances have dropped massively in price in relative terms, but so has the quality and the service levels you get as there isn't the money in the products to pay for quality or service.
But people love cheap.
If you want a GOOD US fridge freezer start thinking on £2K and upwards. If you want rubbish, buy a cheap Samsung, LG, Whirlpool and all it's clones under different names like Smeg, Hotpoint and a stack of others.
It's the old story, you can have cheap or you can have good, it's very rare you can get both.
