Hi What other makes are good (without a Maytag price tag?).

And there's the problem with a lot of appliances these days Cuffie...

You get what you pay for!

If you want a machine that's half the price of the best don't expect the same quality, performance or longevity as the best as it just cannot be done.

  • I am so pleased the Watchdog route worked out. I am not sure it is the entire answer. I did have my freezer repaired and the split water bottle at the cost of almost £200 about a month ago. The fridge has been fine since. .I spoke to Samsung today and they are sending me a claim form, they should be sending me a pot of valium for all the stress it caused me. They even told me to take it to the tip if thats how I felt hmmmmmmmmm changed their tune now haven't they.
Good Luck everyone I am gald I didn't try the repair myself It may invalidate the new guarantee

I do understand what you are saying. Is that the best then.....Maytag? I'm so worried about paying loads of money and then getting expensive repair bills. My neighbour was telling me about his daughter....not sure what f/f she's got, but I know its an American style one. Her door broke. Out of guarantee. Had to pay over £600 for a new door! In the long run, would it be cheaper to get the £600 Samsung model, get the 5 yr guarantee and then when it conks out after then 5 years, buy another. A Maytag one with 5 yr guarantee is over £2,200. Or, in your opinion, would the Maytag one stand the test of time? Sorry to ask all these questions. I know from other posts you are v.knowledgable kwatt, so I hope you don't mind me asking. x

I have the RS21JGNS which I purchased back in March 04 for just under £1,100 against a then RRP of IIRC £1499.

Around 12 Months ago I had the issues described here but followed the instructions included in the thread and defrosted the fridge removing the back plastic panel and making the hole slightly bigger and so far to date it has been fine, started getting noisy again the last fortnight but no temperature rises. The fridge is always set to 2C and is always pretty full.

Good to see Samsung finally admitting to the fault and prepared to fix then so I will be giving them a call soon, as I am now in the final year of the 5 years they have extended the warranty to.

Thanks to all in here for the original advice, and chasing through all relevant channels to get Sansung to do something to sort out our issues.
    Cheers

IMHO, yes but make sure it actually a Maytag made in the good ol' US of A.

Since Whirlpool bought them the Admirals (which used to be a cheap way to get a Maytag) are re-badged Whirlpool machines and they, err, have "issues". ;)

The other option is GE, but service is flaky even though you're unlikely to need it. Maytag can be as well, but that's the Yanks for you in the real world, they ain't as hot on customer service as people think they are.

If it was my own money, Maytag every time based on rather a lot of experience as you can't buy the good Amana stuff now, Whirlpool own them as well! Unless of course you have megabucks and can afford a Viking or Sub-Zero?

Any of these will cost if they break, but they rarely do as the Yanks, whilst truly agricultural engineering wise (just IMO sorry any US citizens) build the things like brick outhouses and are easy to put right if they do go wrong.

The Koreans and now Turkish machines are just cashing in on the trend for big Yankee fridges and they aren't a patch on the pukka items. It's like saying a Fiat is just as good as a Mercedes and is of the same quality, it just isn't so. And, since they produce the cabinets for the US market anyway they may as well sell them into the EU and we dummies think we're getting a bargain and to that, well you have read this thread haven't you?

It may well seem a bargain but when it seems too good to be true, it likely is.

You can get a decent one for about £1200 the last I looked but, if you want stainless, you're up to knocking on £2000 as good quality stainless isn't cheap stuff.

Sorry if it sounds a bit like preaching, it isn't intended to but I hope it helps.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Does anyone know if this fault affects the rs21wasm (this has no ice dispenser but an unplumbed water dispenser on the right). Thanks for any help.

Well Samsung Repair Man turned up on Friday, Fridge has been behaving itself since I followed the instructions on here about defrosting and making the drain hole bigger, which I did the once and since then it has been OK for nearly 12 months but could hear the fan starting to catch again this past few months.

Anyway he didn't check the state of the Fridge just installed the new parts, new back panel etc the old one did have the ice build up inside it and the fan had been cutting a grove through the ice. The guy was a really nice chap said that was all he had been doing all week since the Watch Dog Program. He even fixed the door on my Ice Dispenser as it hadn't been closing properly for ages now since the kids jammed something up it and took the flap of.

Well impressed with the service from Samsung, eventually and especially their service guy.
    Cheers

Hi. Iam waiting for a fridge repairman to call after registering with Samsung following last weeks Watchdog. Apparently, they are waiting for parts. Can anyone tell me which parts they actually replace; is it just the back panel or do they replace the sensors and fuses as well? I defrosted my fridge 2 weeks ago and it has started to make the dreaded noise again today so I hope they call soon!
