Just a little heads up on the repair. When it has frozen up do not try and get the back panel off or you might damage the seal around it because it makes it stick to the back of the fridge. The first Samsung engineer done this he took a big chunk out of the polestirene so the seal was not air tight and this speeds up the freezing of the fan. He never defrosted it proper because of the rush he was in.0

HI Pinkhev
WE in fact did the defrosting and I do have to warn you it isnot a cure. My water dispenser has stopped wotking again and I can hear the buzz coming back 2 weeks on. I am so cross right now I could spit tin tacks I have eventually managed to speak to a Samsung engineer and they are getting someone to ring me Sunday to arrange an appointment. I mentioned the threads and that we had done XYZ and I knew quite a bit about things now he then said well you cannot believe what you read on the internet (EXCUSE ME) Told me it could be one of 7 things and if there were Samsung engineers speaking on here then they would be ones who had not got the contract. (GOD HELP US) Did we all come up on a banana boat I ask myself. Please credit us with some intellect. I am going to follow in your footsteps and write to Watch Dog they need directing towards the thread of people who have had problems. By the way my fridge cost over £1000 its the black glass front If it wasn't glass I may kick it. I will let all know how I gey on.
I did try and buy the repair kit myslef from Scotland but after 4 emails and no response I have given up.

Hi Unhappy Lady. If its the RS21 you have there is someone on ebay selling the new panel, just do a search for rs 21. I know you might need a new defrost sensor and maybe a new thermal fuse to complete the kit i have seen the rs21 defrost sensor on ebay too. BTW out of all the fixes my RS21 had the Samsung engineers where the worst . I think they are careful of what they tell you in case you get straight back onto Samsung they know exactly what the fault [design fault] is . Good luck to everyone on here who is having trouble with these big pieces of junk . Stand behind the service man with a digital camera taking pics of what he does and what the fridge looks like when he removes the panel and don't defrost it before he arrives your only making his job quicker. If he ask what you taking pictures for just tell him to send to watchdog or to use as evidence..0 -
Hi Unhappy Lady (I think we all are unhappy on here!!)
Thanks for your tips with the hairdryer. The problem has stopped for now, but from reading the many reports on here, I know it's just a matter of time before it returns. I just can't believe how Samsung have shoved their heads in the sand with this!! It is infuriating.
Like I said, if we all contacted Watchdog, they might do something to help but I appreciate it's a long shot.0 -

After reading posts these on this forum i decided to sourse the parts myself and have a go at fixing this fault. The result of which has been successful.
Parts are available from the offical Samsung parts supplier mysamsung (search on google). You will require a new fridge cover assembly cost of around £80 (this includes an alteration to the drain hole where a alloy strip has been added to transfer heat to prevent frosting. A small metal clip is included in the kit, this fits on the cooling element behind the cover. When the cover is refittied this makes contact with the alloy strip fitted to the drain hole on the cover. this inturn transfers heat and prevent the formation of ice around the fan. An instruction fitting sheet is also enclosed this should help you in the repair.
For the extra costs of about £8 each you should order a thermal fuse and defrost sensor you might as well fit these to be on the safe side while you have the appliance in bits. i would recommend you to phone and speak to operater at mysamsung rather than chooseing parts from the online catalogue,as some iparts have been replaced with updated items. you will finally need some small cable ties 6no of about 100mm in length. Empty the contents of the appliance and decant frozen items into friends or relations fridges and frezzers,as you need to switch off and leave the applaince to defost for about 24 hrs. I thawed the frozen cover at the bottom of the fridge compartment with a hair dryer, but i was a pain. Remove all the shelves and drawers from the fridge compartment. Make sure the applaince is unlugged from the electrics! remove the white screw from the top of the internal fridge light cover and unclip the cover and remove. Unscrew the 2no glass light bulbs and store in a safe place. Remove the three screws from the light assembly carefully lift away at the back there are two plugs release the plugs by squeezing the clasp on the side of the plugs. lift away the light assembly and store in safe place for refitting later.note plugs can only be refitted on way so theres no need to make a note of which goes where. Remove two screws holding the plastic coil at the bottom of the fridge compartment and then gently lie the coil on the fridge base. Remove by unclipping two covers to the top of the lower fridge panel, these hold the deodoriser pads and once removed uncover two screws securing the back panel these need to be removed. Now remove two screws securing the panel at the bottom on the fridge near to where the coil was situated. Pull free the
cover panel unplug the wires from the fan and discard the whole unit as this will all be replaced with the new part. With the new defrost senor and thermal fuse at hand indentify the parts already fittied to the element coil on the back of the fridge wall. These are secured by mostly cable ties and a small plastic clip on one of the sensors. Carefully cut the cable ties noting thier position for later refitting of the new ties. Unplug and unclip the plastic holder from the upper sensor. For removal of the bottom right hand senor /fuse you can very carefully slighty pull the whole of the element forward releaseing it from the plastic clips (do not put any strain on this item). This will make life easier for removal and refitting of this sensor / fuse. Carefully cut the cable ties unpug and remove this bottom sensor. Unpack the new sensors and refit as the orginals and refit new cable ties. Carefully reclip the element into its orginal postion. Using the metal clip supplied fit this onto the element into postion as per the instruction sheet included. fit the new cover panel into postion and reconnect the wires fron the fan motor.
At this stage it is important that you make sure this new panel fits suggly and has no gaps against the back inside wall of the fridge compartment and secure with the four number screws. Finally refitt the coil at the bottom on the fridge. Refit the internal light assembly, refit the bulbs and cover.
Plug in the applaince and switch on.
If you have followed these instructions you should now have a repaired fridge frezzer in fully working order. This should have saved you over £1000 -

Hi,
My samsung has just reached 37 months old and started marking a row from the motor inside.
I just followed your instructions on here and found it to be full of ice.
An hour later and all cleaned up its all working well, thank you.
Wife just found receipt and noticed we took out the extended warranty with Currys giving us 5 years cover.
Shall I ring them up and ask them to come out and replace the parts with the new modified ones?
Will they know what I'm on about when I explain this site and the fix?
Thanks,

We have a Samsung RSH1DTSW - is this likely to suffer the same fate as the RS20/21s - or has it been modded to avoid - does anyone know, please?

Just a quick update.
your not going to believe this but we can't get the Samsung FF out of the new door we had fitted after we took delivery of the Samsung FF a few years ago . We had the new kitchen built afterwards . So this is going to cost alot more than we first thought . We have been offered to pick any FF up to the value of £900 so we are happy with that. So now not only do we have a fridge freezer in our kitchen that i keep repairing ie: defrosting to keep it going but we can't get it out or the new one in without lots of mess and even more expense ...0
