We've had exactly the same (strange vibration noises, fridge not cooling, water cutting out, etc), and despite reporting the fault on September 14th, have still not resolved (now November). After 4 visits with the engineer scratching his head, swapping sensors, etc, we are waiting for a new control panel and a new upgraded sensor, although whether this works, is still to be seen. This would be the 5th visit and there will be more as the ice cube chute is also staying open occasionally.
Sainsburys (who we bought it from) have been good and are now trying to get a replacement. I wish we had gone back to them earlier, as the way Samsung work is atrocious. The attitude of their so called "customer care" department stinks, and is extremely arrogant and patronising. When I said taking six weeks and still not fixing was not good and we will tell people about it, I was told how big and successful a company they were, as if he obviously did not care.
If anyone else is up for contacting Watchdog, please let me know.0 -
My RS21 DCNS has just started making the fan noises again, about 11 weeks after I first fixed it with the help of gfb's excellent guide posted earlier on this thread.
So I am expecting the refrigeration to pack up again within the next 72 hours.
While I'm immensely grateful to gfb for his guide, I have decided I can't be in a situation where I'm having to undertake this very inconvenient procedure every 3 months or so. It also raises the worrying prospect of the machine failing whilst I am away on holiday, since the gap between the early warning sign and complete failure is so short.
We need to take direct action against Samsung. It is absolutely disgraceful that a large blue chip corporation is washing its hands of a problem it created. These fridges were not cheap - we spent a lot of money on them in good faith! We should all reasonably expect them to last 5 years minimum without any serious problems.
Samsung have blatantly lied by telling scores of customers that no design fault exists. If a fan getting blocked with ice isn't a design fault, I'm the Pope. They've lied because spending money on fixing all these models will dent their profits - it's as simple as that. Exactly like Renault and the faulty Clio bonnet catch.
It's also irresponsible that Samsung have, by default, encouraged 100s of probably unqualified laymen to open up their electrical equipment and attempt DIY repairs because the cost of professional repairs and new parts is prohibitively expensive to so many.
I am now thinking of setting up a website devoted to this issue, where affected customers can add their details, just so we can get some idea of the scale of this problem (although just doing a Google suggests it's a massive problem) and hopefully shame Samsung into doing the honourable thing and permanently fixing our fridges at their expense.
Tomorrow I will also obtain the names and addresses of the directors of Samsung UK Ltd from Companies House. I will publish these on here so we can write to the directors at their home addresses, or visit them in person to ask them to repair our fridges. It's simply unacceptable for these people to hide anonymously behind a bland corporate website.
If anyone wants to add their support or ideas please let me know.0 -
I would be intrested in those addreses, even to have the satisfaction of penting my feelings to them.
even thou our fridge/freezer is nearly four years i still in fairness you would look at it lasting at least 5/6 yearsand the service from samsung is appaling and not helpful at all.
Keep right on :T :beer:0 -

The existence of the repair kit and it's photo based instruction sheet is clear admission by Samsung they have a problem with the RS21DCNS. If you look at the sheet is says ''This improvement is to be applied from March 2007 production''. I paid £180 to a local service company to do this mod. The servoce engineer denied there were design issues and tore the instruction sheet into tiny pieces before he left. He did not count on my patience and sellotape.
The sale of Goods Act 1979 requires the supply of goods to be of a ''satisfactory qulaity and durable''.
I suggest anyone in my postion takes this up with their local Trading Standards as I am doing.0 -
Hi all. I am having the same problem as everyone else; water not working, fridge icing up etc. Have done the defrost thing 2 weeks ago, but icing up again, and top of fridge warming up, water never woked after the de icing. I have a question; what is the faulty component? If the fridge has worked fine for four years and then suddenly we all have the same symptoms surely a design fault would have caused it to fail straight away. It's worked fine four four years so some part must have failed to cause the fan to ice up. Even if Samsung have improved the design of the back panels nobody has explained what the faulty part was. By spending around £130 on a new panel with a new fan, what difference does it have to the old part and what part has failed in the old part, I can't understand what part of the back panel that is just a fan (still working), polystyrene and plastic, can go wrong. Can anyone explain please - thanks, Jane0

Folks
Been reading the posts regarding Samsung and the Rs21 range and am begining to wish I had done this before I purchased an RS21DCNS.
Anyway a word of warning.
Our RS21DCNS developed the common fault where the Fridge section does not cool, primarily down to a build up of Ice on the cooling fins which blocks the fan and stops air circulation.
In addition to this it sound like a machine gun.....
After the 3rd visit from Samsung in 6 weeks to repair the unit under warranty the engineer stated that he did not know how to resolve the issue and would contact Samsung.
Now the ugly bit....
Samsung have received the engineers report but I have to wait 28 Days!! for them to provide a response under the customer SLA's that are in place for warranty repair.
SO I am left with a faulty unit while samsung **** about to find a resolution.
This is abviously a common fault, so much for customer service never mind care.
So if you are thinking of buying a Samsung item think again, the warranty is not all it is cracked up to be.
I am now talking to Comet to get this issue resolved ASAP

I am having the same problem as everyone else - fridge was really noisy, now quiet, but now fridge temperature reads 14 degrees.
I will contact my local trading standards tomorrow to see what they think. In the meantime, there is also another list of complaints here:
http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/american-fridge-freezers/samsung-rs21dcns.asp
Perhaps if some of us contact Watchdog, giving the links to all the pages we can find where consumers are complaining about the problem, they will look into it? I am up for it!0
