I just want to say a huge thanks to gfb for going to the considerable effort of posting the DIY guide to fixing the problem. It's very kind and helpful of you....
Thanks Advocate for appreciating my efforts. It feels nice to know that my efforts are being appreciated and also to know that my instructions helped somebody to fix their fridge. :dance:0 -

I followed your guide and I'm delighted to say that my fridge freezer is now fully functional again!
Your instructions were really clear to follow and everything was straightforward.
I'll wait and see how long until the fan ices up again, but I don't mind having to repeat this procedure every once in a while if it saves on repair bills.
Until I found this thread I had that terrible sinking feeling that I was going to have to spend hundreds on a repair or replacement.
I'm extremely grateful. Thanks once again.0 -

However, does it really need it's filter changed every six months? We are in the North of Scotland and the water up here is much softer than other parts of the UK. I can only assume that the filter warning light is on some sort of timer as it turned orange bang on the six months and has since turned red. The water still comes out no problem but I doubt if it is affected by an "out of date" filter.
Any thoughts guys?
We bought our RS21JLSG (the frosted silver glass one) in March this year in preparation for our new kitchen. However, it's still sat in our living room due to delays with the building work and although it has been in use all this time, we have obviously not had it plumbed in so no filtered water/ice being produced and the filter supplied with the fridge is still in the box. Last week, the red filter light came on saying that the filter needs changing0 -
It's on a timer.

Don't worry about the red light. It comes on after every 6 months. The indicator is based on how much time has passed and assumes that it is time to change the filter. It is not based on the quality of the water supply. You can change it back to Green light by pressing the 'Ice Type' button and the 'Child Lock' button together for 3 seconds. The light will again change to Red after 6 months, whether you use the water supply or not.
You can change it to Green now to avoid seeing the nasty Red light. But when the plumbing is done and you start using it, I would suggest that you do it again (even if the light is green) to start the 6 month clock from that point onwards.
Hope this helps.0 -

Hi gfb, thanks for your reply. I'm not worried, I just thought it was funny.:D Good advice about when it is plumbed in. Thanks very much.:T0 -
We've had a similar problem, power cut then fridge / freezer slowly losing ability to freeze / cool food. Our model is the samsung RS20CCMS side by side. Will try defrosting as per earlier thread or can anyone suggest an other solution. Also where do we get parts??

Diolch.
Don't you think that gfb should be up for some kind of Community Action Trust award, a mention in dispatches, an O.B.E perhaps?

The world is a better place than it was this morning and I shall sleep soundly in my bed tonight :j, and tomorrow, the Samsung RS21WCNS will be introduced to my screwdriver and to our hairdryer!
I do feel that Samsung should a) acknowledge the design fault, and b) freely provide simple advice, guidance or a fix such as that worked out by gfb before someone either hurts themselves / property (if there is such a risk) or their finances by buying a replacement (I'm sure that there must be recycling centres etc. up and down the country filling up with Samsungs that don't really have that much wrong with them - not much common sense there is there, or does that go against their profit margins?). In any case, it's not a good advert for the company, so if there is anyone from Samsung reading this - gair i gall / a word to the wise!
Diolch yn fawr iawn, a pob hwyl richpari!:D0 -
:j Many many thanks to you gfb for your detailed instructions on how to fix this problem. My symptoms were exactly the same as yours and your 'fix' worked a treat. Again thankyou for saving me a packet as my fridge is also just over 2 years old.:T0
