defrosting the appliance/fan assy will only delay the problem, it will come back,

you need to replace 3 items, to ensure a repair success,

    1st cover assy
    2nd defrost sensor
    3rd thermal fuse,

these can be replaced if you are diy minded, and can be sourced of the internet, but you need to make sure you get the latest versions of these spares as samsung have made about 3 different versions and theres a lot of spares out there that are not the latest version.

we can supply a kit with everything you need to cure this fault,
but im not sure i can list my email add,..
if theres a demand for our repair kit, and we can post email add i will ??

ps we are authorised samsung agents, so we know what we are talking about??

    tech guy,

    Hi tech guy.
We bought the above in November 2003 and have had trouble all along. The fridge side finally packed in about a year ago and we have had to carry on as any engineer we have spoken to huffed and puffed about Samsung and told us we would have to pay £100 just to look at it and then say 'nothing can be done' as the parts are no longer available.
I always believed it had something to do with the fan as the unit makes horrendous noises and the bottom part (under the lowest salad chiller box is caked with ice) but then I wonder if it is a leak in the the pipe thingy (see how technical I am!) as I have defrosted and it ices up again.

We were just thinking of dumping the thing but then I saw your post and wondered if this could ease our financial dilemma as we really cannot afford an engineer repair and the summer is fast upon us.
    Many thanks for any help.

Unlike cars, which are primarily mechanical devices just as appliances are, people accept with cars that they simply have to pay to get quality of build and performance and yet, when it comes to appliances, people expect Rolls Royce performance and build for Mini money. Sorry, but that's just not living in the real world.

    K.

I certainly did not expect a Rolls Royce performance for Mini money but I most certainly do expect it to last a damn sight longer than two or three years!

Did you try defrosting the ice around the fan, i.e., did you open the lower unit of the fridge (see my instructions above) and defrosted ice around the fan? If you don't do that, then the air will not circulate and the bottom part will ice up quickly. The only (long term, not permanent of course) solution is to melt the ice around the fan. That ice is rock solid and won't melt easily by normal defrost process. Open the assembly (it is very easy even for non-technical people like me or you). Then it will first of all stop the horrible noise (which is the fan hitting the ice). Next, it will result in even flow of cold air in the fridge and the lower part will not ice up.

    Hope this helps.
  • I too have exactly the same problems.first noisy fan and now a fridge that cannot cool.mine is under 2 years old but i cant find the original receipt from currys online(was in an email which i must have deleted:mad: )what are my rights now?anybody else been able to get repair/replacement without original receipt?

    Hi,

If you email Currys with an approximate date and your details they should be able to supply a receipt quite easily. They'll also probably try to flog you a warranty. ;)

Alternatively, Samsung will usually honor the warranty so long as the serial number falls under two years from production date, which is embedded within the serial number. If the serial number says it's over two years old (been lying in stock or whatever) then you will need the receipt to get it done under warranty.

  • rang currys who told me to ring samsung.got engineer to come out next day(today) and although he would not admit it was a common fault he had all the replacement parts ready to replace before he even had a look!he replaced the whole unit, sensor and thermal fuse so im happy now.does that mean i should be trouble free now?

Yeah, but there's no way to know for how long I'm afraid as it is not unheard of for them to go again shall we say.

We usually advise people to take our extended warranty on these units, the guys carry them and they're a lot cheaper than Currys, British Gas etc. but we don't really promote them on the internet. ;)

Your instructions fixed my fridge freezer problem . They were very clear and easy to understand. I wish all technical instructions were that clear. I would like to add in addtion that the down tube underneath the cooling tubes was also frozen solid and took some time to defrost. otherwise no problem. Thank you. Saved me service call and cash.
