Ok - Ours started going on Sunday night, by tuesday we had to throw all the food away, founds lots of forums describing similar symptoms, fridge going too warm.... Decided to switch it off to see if it would reset - it would not, bad idea... So after seeing some other ideas decicded to go with the removal of back panel in freezer and found it was all iced up, melted by tuesday morning, switched it back on and rang comet - arent they the most helpful guys? Ha! Not on your nelly! gave a load of blah, disputed it and managed to get one of there engineers who will come on 10th July between 8am and 6pm, thats just great wait in all day to have them turn up at 5;45pm! Anyway now the fridge has decided it wants to stay with us...who knows for how long, just takes our food...our electric....pays no rent! Decided to call it Kevin! Anyway we only bought this 14th July 2005, so only has about a week left before warranty runs out, but now that kevin has decided to work again, the engineer is gonna think Im barmy - really need to give Kevin a kick in the backside! So might start pushing buttons on Monday evening....
Do you know - I had my grans fridge freezer when I first moved into my own place, grotty old thing, she had had it 15 years, I owned for another 5 years! Ridiculous that a £699 FF can break down after 2 years!
Anyone considered going to Watchdog to get some media exposure! Im up for it!!!
I have just sent an email with my compaint to WatchDog, I suggest others do the same - the more that do, then the more chance we have getting this exposed!0 -

Your instructions fixed my fridge freezer problem . They were very clear and easy to understand. I wish all technical instructions were that clear. I would like to add in addtion that the down tube underneath the cooling tubes was also frozen solid and took some time to defrost. otherwise no problem. Thank you. Saved me service call and cash.

Thanks Vic for appreciating my efforts in writing the instructions down. Feels nice to know that it helped someone.
Regarding the down tube underneath the cooling tubes, I was not sure if that needed defrosting or was it meant to be like that. So I did not mention it in the instructions. When I was repairing my fridge, I had left it as it is. My fridge is working perfectly since then, so I won't experiment with defrosting that now or in future. I resolved the main problem (of fan getting stuck because of ice around it) and will keep an eye (read ear) open for the noise as I am sure it will happen again after some time. It is like in olden days when you had to regularly defrost your fridge. Looks like we need to do the same with this so called 'Frostfree' fridge, i.e., defrost it from time to time to avoid this problem.

I did the 'fan thaw' as you directed and the fridge worked fine for about 5 days but the fridge is icing up again, with the fan hitting the ice. Is there something else I should have done? A later thread suggests clearing out 'tubes' under the fan housing - could it be that there is another ice trap there? BTW, my warranty has just expired . . .0 -

5 days is a very short period for the ice to accumulate again!!! It is almost 1 month since I thawed the ice in my fridge and I have no problem since then. I was thinking that it will take months to accumulate that much ice again.
Did you clear the ice completely, i.e., all the ice in the cavity where the fan rotates including the outlet hole at the bottom of the cavity? I had made the outlet hole bigger and made sure that there was no ice in the passage. Also, did you put back the assembly properly? I mean, if it is not screwed back tightly, then mositure might go inside from the sides. I am not an expert and I can only guess.

Yes, thanks to your good instructions, I cleaned out the ice, made the hole bigger and dried everything out with a hairdryer as well.
You may be right that if the seal around the panel is not air tight, it may allow moisture to get in and freeze up. Perhaps that is the problem in the first place! I'll reseal and see what happens. Thanks for your prompt reply.0 -
hello guys i also got a £600 pile of cr*p lovely looking and good when working. model rs21dcns
fridge was buzzing 4 weeks ago followed by water stopping and fluctuating temp got the engineer out as it only had 1 week of garantee left he said it was a design fault and replaced the fan i think it worked fine again till now
exactly the same problem fan froze and fridge fluctuates wont stay cold called the engineer again he now says its a different problem and as garantee is out it will cost £150 to repair , now im looking at all these faults and saying is it worth it as it will only happen again, surely we all have rights that known faulty items should last more than 2 years?
well im up to email watchdog0 -

Hi
I am yet another person having problems with Samsung. They messed me around until they could claim I was out of the 2 year guarantee period. I am now communicating with Argos under the Sale of Goods and Services Act. They are being reasonable but want a statement from an engineer that this is a design problem. Obviously given the history of this equipment it is - can anyone help prove this - I need a statement from an independent engineer that I would be willing to pay for and then to share with anyone else - we might be able to "encourage" samsung to be more helpful as a general principle with such a document.0 -
I can't conclusively say that it is a design problem for sure.
I can say that it is my opinion that there is a design problem and you don't even have to pay me to say so as that's my opinion on dealing with US style refrigeration and domestic refrigeration for over twenty years.
The fact that the rear panel, which appears to be the primary point of failure, has been changed on several occasions in order to try to solve a problem that Samsung says doesn't exist points toward a slight contradiction don't you think? After all, why change the design of a part if it's not a problem?

Hi all
We had a power cut yesterday for 2 hrs and after switching my Samsung F/F back on the fridge and freezer temps had obviously risen. The freezer temp quickly dropped back down to it's original temp though but the fridge temp only dropped by one degree! I tried using the 'Power Cool' button and left it on last night. When I got up this morning the fridge had still only dropped to 10!
I'm guessing now that I need to try this thawing out process as described in previous posts. I had noticed that the F/F was slightly noisier over the last few weeks and maybe this power cut has just tipped it over the edge. Surprise, surprise though, we had a letter the last month asking if we wished to renew our insurance on this product but due to us setting up a new business and the costs involved with that we decided not too! What can I say - s*d's law ain't it!! :mad:0
