  • I purchased a RS21WCNS ff in April 2004 and have experienced the intermittant buzzing noises described by others here. Before the warranty ran out, I called an engineer out who replaced some sensors and advised us to set the fridge temperature to no lower than 3C. This seemed to do the trick, but just recently I have noticed that the intermittant buzzing is back and I'm now out of warranty :-(

You're not that far out of warrranty, so you should have grounds, based on what has been said in this thread.

Contact trading Standards, Samsung and the shop, kick up a stink and see how you get on

Is the fault with a particular model does anyone know? Ours is an RS21 and a whole lot of other numbers but has the water filter in the inside which twists into place as oppposed to the external kind.

Is a year old and no problems so far. Did purchase the extended warrenty for once as it was a special deal from Comet at the time. Checking out everyones experience with interest.

Cannot believe it, might have known I was tempting fate! Freezer spontaneously defrosted on SUnday, ice compartment flloded freezer contents and floor before we noticed. Thought it had been noisier than usual. Comet engineer coming out on Tuesday. Customer Services had no knowledge of any component fault on record. I said I was aware from a consumer internet site that this was a common problem with this Samsung model and wanted the engineer to contact Samsung before coming out.

See what Tuesday brings! Thanks for alerting me to the problem peeps.

We have a samsung fridge freezer bought from Comet over a year ago. They told us it was out of warranty and we had to pay when they came to repair the fridge section in July. The repair, consisting of breaking off lumps of polystyrene from the back, was effective for about 2 months. After this, with a small battle, Comet agreed to send an engineer without a call out charge but with my agreeing to pay for any necessary spare parts.

A new sensor and heating component were installed and this time the repair was effective for only a few days. Comet rang me because the card I used to pay did not go through the machine correctly and they wanted payment. When I explained the problem the employee tried to get me to speak to Samsung rather than them. I said I'd stick with the retailer.

I've seen an interesting link to info on "EU Guarantees Directive 1999/44/EC which requires member states to implement a 2 year guarantee on goods. has anyone argued this to good effect? It seems that the UK has not implemented this directive and it's not mentioned on the OFT and similar sites, as far as I can see.

Any info or experience on this would be welcome.

    Thanks.

  • Hi silvercar and Verbatim,

I'd really be interested to know which models you have as we're looking at getting one as it seems to be about the only one that will fit the available space but I keep reading really mixed reviews about them.

Sorry Verbatim, but I can't help with your question, so hope you don't think I'm being cheeky...
  • Comet engineer came a day early. Carried out a few tests and said everything functioning as it should. Liklihood was that fan had frozen, triggering defrosting of freezer. Advice was to keep an eye on it and if the problem reoccurs then he will replace all the sensors. He reckoned that it was the RS20 that had all the problems.

Edit to say that those two blue circular lights are the air sensors which take temperature readings. I had two big tubs of icecream crammed onto the top shelf and pressing against the freezer sensor and the engineer did say that this could have affected the temperature readings.

    Our model is the RS21DGRS1/X

rc21dcns or something similar. Its the silver one with the ice and water dispenser on the freezer door. very happy with it. Searched the net for it, Dixons had the best price but no stock, got a good price from appliance-city. They have just brought out a black mirrored version for an extra £200! If you want to be truly money saving they do it on white for £50 less!

I thought I would just add our problems with our fridge freezer, as the more of us there are the more likely they cannot deny that there is a problem with the fridge.- which will be helpful for out of warrenty claims if faults persist

We brought ours in Dec last year - no problems until June this year- noise getting louder and louder, so called Samsung, as still within 2 years told us to contact Comet. Comet sent out engineer - fan had frozen up and he changed a sensor. All worked for a couple of months, then the intermittent noise. Called them out again saying the same problem. The guy came again last week, and said that he didnt have the part, and then came again this morning. He has changed the back panel where there fan is.

After telling him that I had read about this on the internet (this site and http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=10682&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0, he admitted that this was something that he had seen before and that Samsung had changed the design on their fridges now, and that this panel should work stop the problem.

Will keep an ear out and let people know.
