For those concerned about hiking a TV back to M&S

I was in my Local M&S last weekend when I clocked a very good deal
Sony W580 32" at £499 (built in freesat)

now here is the ++point there was £100 trade in offer on this
(not sure if this was specific to M&S Liverpool, and can't seem to get the trade in to work on line) bringing the TV down to £399 (bargain if you ask me)

Now I was told you can trade in any size of to get the £100 off
the guy in the shop even showed us some prehistoric portable TV that some had brought in to part ex

Did you have to bring the trade in to the store as mentioned above?

So you could trade in even a little 14" TV?
Would they be funny about that or do they have to accept anything that works?

It doesn't have to work, they don't check. Apparently people have even gone to the local "recycling centre" and got an old tv from there to trade in!!

does the old tv have to be in working order? I noticed on tesco website it states that the screen should be intact.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

Most places we checked with in Liverpool (incl. Sony store, John Lewis, M&S) would accept ANY telly as trade in so yes in theory we could have traded in a small portable however a) we don't have one!!!, and b) we would still have had to get rid of our old cumbersome telly some other way. That was why we never went with Marksies, although we were tempted by a nice looking one that was reduced down to £499 (so £449 after trade in)!

When I saw the full Sony t&c for this - I think it was the sony centres website - it did say non-portable TVs only which they defined as bigger than 14 inches.

However John Lewis etc which are also running the promotion do not seem to have included this in their t&c probably an oversight but to the customers' benefit.

If you don't have a telly to trade in just go to your nearest recycling centre. They will have loads - just help yourself to one. Might have to bung the tip people a quid or two - depends how friendly they are.

The problem at the present time is there are so many different/similar trade in deals

the main one being Sony stating £50/£100 depending on what size you buy

at M&S in Liverpool I was told I could bring in any telly (portable or large tv etc)

like i said earlier the guy in the shop (very helpful to) even showed us some old prehistoric 14tv someone had bought in

as someone else posted if you ain't got a small 14tv just go to your local recycling depot, there's always a few lying round

Just to let folk know, looks like John Lewis have hiked their prices up. I was in-store 2 weeks ago looking to buy the new Sony Bravia 40EX503 as advertised at £749. With Trade-In £649. They said they couldn't take any more orders or reservations for the moment because they had such a large back log to fulfill, but to keep checking back. Also, I should keep an eye online because when online gets them back in, there's a good chance the store will. I've been keeping an eye online until last night I noticed the online price had jumped from £749 to £899! Even with the trade in it's not as cheap as it originally was! Seems they've realised they can make a few extra quid. There are a few places that do it for £749, byt they're not part of the trade in offer.
