I managed to get a great deal on a 40inch Sony bravia with full hd and freeview from richer sounds. Only £439.99 with a 5year guarantee, this was price including £100 trade in. Was very happy with this deal as exactly same tv was £649 in tesco with only standard guarantee.
Which model did you get?0 -

It looks like Marks and Spencer no longer stock the 40 inch model with Freesat built in.
Or is it temporarily off their website?
I called one of their stores and they say they don't have it.0 -

That's a bargain. Well done. How did you manage it? The cheapest 40" they have on the website is £539.95 with the £100 trade-in already taken off (£639.95 otherwise). And the 5yr warranty should be another 10%.0 -
I've been to a few shops and some of these TVs (e.g. 40W5810) are actually last year's model and have been discontinued.
What do you all think will happen after the scrappage scheme ends?
Will the prices rise or will they be cut again to get rid of old stock?0 -
We have been away for a few weeks but managed to get JL to match tesco on the Sony KDL40EX403, they even beat the price in the end as we got it for £540. I was so happy as now we have the 5 year warranty.0

Well I picked up a Sony 37v5810 (full HD, Freesat HD, Freeview, Network, etc) for £399 at Currys. Beautiful picture, world cup in HD & Iplayer. Yes, it is a discontinued model but if you check you'll find that it was only released in October last year. The only reason it's discontinued is because Sony are now pushing built-in freeview HD....which won't be available where I am for at least a year.
Personally I think the end of the world cup will see the end of the big push to sell HD tellys. For the last couple of months the companies have known that a lot of people would want to upgrade so they could watch the world cup on a new big telly. Consequently they competed hard for the available business and big discounts were offered. I suspect that clearance TVs will clear quite quickly and anything that is still a viable product will go back up in price - at least until freeview HD becomes more widely available next year. So if you have been hanging on in the hope of another price drop I suspect the sweet-spot may already be going, going, gone.0 -
I bought a Sony KDL 32EX403 on the trade in, but after over a week of direct comparision to my old 28" Toshiba CRT (I traded in someone else's old TV thankfully!) I have taken it back. Don't be fooled by thinking you will be getting a better picture LCD...I found the standard definition performance to be worse on the LCD, and the sound is much worse (due to limited space for the speakers in an LCD). HD was good, but nothing really to get worked up about. If you mostly watch SD and space is not an issue, I seriously reccommend sticking with your CRT for a few more years if you want the best picture and sound.0

Right.
The trade-in offer should have ended yesterday (11 July).
We'll see what happens now.0
