Just had an email from Tesco Direct to tell me the KDL40EX403 is back in stock. Don't forget to use £10 off £100 spend and quidco!

    Hi,

I was looking to get a Sony Bravia 40" TV but can't tell them apart, what's the difference between the KDL40EX403 (£639) and the KDL40EX401 (£529)?
They seem identical except for the price.
Sorry if i seem a bit dim, :o i know there are different specs but is it really worth paying extra just for a newer model that does the same as the old one?

samy88, The difference (just quickly looking) is that the 401 is standard freeview, the 403 is freeview HD.
You may want to double check this though.

Amazon have an extra 10% off the new range of Sony tellys until Tuesday.

It brings the 40EX403 down to under £530, the 40EX401 will be in the region of £477 and the 32EX403 is around £404.

We got the 40inch EX503 model last week from M&S. We had a nightmare job finding one - we could only find 3 in the whole country at M&S at the time! John Lewis was out of stock and so was the Sony centre. We ended up having to reserve one at Harrogate, and drive up from South Yorkshire.
As far as the part ex was concerned, it would have been impossible for us to drag a 32" CRT telly to the store, so we had a look in the loft and found a really old, 4" black and white telly, which didn't even plug into the mains - it was meant for use in a car. Phoned M & S prior to going to store, and they said that they were happy to accept it as part ex. They said as long as the screen was intact, they would accept anything - and it didn't have to be working.
Probably could have got one cheaper - but as I say, we were struggling to find stock. Ended up paying £800 after trade in, with a five year guarantee, and a "free" blue ray Dvd player worth £179. Really happy with it - good picture, sound ok but not brilliant - but my husband had already listened to a demo before we bought it, and he is picking up a Q Acoustics QTV2 speaker thingy over the next couple of days to improve the sound.
So, one happy hubby - and a bemused wife still not sure why we have spent £1000 replacing a CRT telly which worked perfectly well! Not very MSE!

Ha ha that's me too. Our telly was perfectly fine but my husband convinced himself that we "needed" a new one so after months of protesting I finally gave in the other week and let him get one.

hmmm, and how many times do you come home with new clothes, even though you have a wardrobe (or 3) full of 'em already. Men, am I right ;)

I'm trying to convince my fiancee that as we are decorating the lounge this summer, that if we want to find the space to put a fireplace in (don't have one), then there'll be no room for a telly unless we stick it on the wall. And I'm spending bonus money, not the 'providing for my family' money (no I'm not a finance worker, nor was it a huge bonus).
I think the issue will be when it arrives and is unpacked. Old TV=28", new telly 40". Though physically it is only 20cm wider and 8cm taller... it's still gonna look huuuge!

Does anybody think/know deals will come down as we get closer to the World Cup or will the best offers be this weekend with it being a Bank Holiday?

If anyone is after the 32" KDL-32EX403, M&S are currently offering it for £399 (double trade in discount) - I was gutted to see this today as we paid £449 in John Lewis the other week!!! Aaargh! Never mind - can't be helped now - but thought this might help someone else.

I paid £349.95 at JL (which includes the £100 trade in).
You should try & talk to them nicely & you never know, you might get a pleasant surprise.
