Oh Pickle, one of those things.
I used to use library but its closed on my day off, and I never go into town on a Saturday. Life is too short.
Struggling with 'We are all made of glue'. I'm not a big fan of mini history lessons in the middle of a fictional story. Not sure I'll make it through to the end. Waterstones voucher is still untouched so I am behaving.DC.

Pickle: Will post a synopsis of A History of Tractors in Ukranian later.
Its the first book by Marina Lewycka. Ive read her second - Two Caravans - which is about a group of immigrant workers and their experiences. I really enjoyed that so I thought I'd read her first book.

Pickle: A History of Tractors in Ukranian - from Amazon
'Two years after my mother died, my father fell in love with a glamourous blonde Ukrainian divorcee. He was eighty-four and she was thirty-six. She exploded into our lives like a fluffy pink grenade, churning up the murky water, bringing to the surface a sludge of sloughed-off memories, giving the family ghosts a kick up the backside.' Sisters Vera and Nadezhda must put aside a lifetime of feuding to save their !migr! engineer father from voluptuous gold-digger Valentina. With her proclivity for green satin underwear and boil-in-the-bag cuisine, she will stop at nothing in her pursuit of Western wealth. But the sisters' campaign to oust Valentina unearths family secrets, uncovers fifty years of Europe's darkest history and sends them back to roots they'd much rather forget...

Jinty, glad you enjoyed the Potato Peel book, I'm thinking of that one once I finish His Dark Materials (STILL two chapters to go on The Subtle Knife, I haven't actually finished a book since this challenge started
)
I love the History of Tractors, so funny, never been tempted by Two Caravans though, not sure why!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Have to recommend Everything Is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer. It's really good, and talks about Jews and Anti-Semitic views during the war, and trying to find roots. It's really sad at the end too, and I love it.
I'm also reading Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe and it's just funny, it's his Guardian columns and they're just so funny** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
**SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.
