Hi everyone, finally got around to counting my books up and i have [including one just finished] 146.I did by 3 books on thursday from a charity shop: fern britton my story, nicole richie the truth about diamonds and Roberta Taylor too many mothers all 3 for £1. Was surprised to see these in the shop as only went in for baskets as there books are not very good.

have started working in a charity shop and our books are from 95p to 2.50 depending on the size we usally sell at 1/3 the rrp.althought if books looks untidy we do not sell them.

have finished reading loss of innocence by ron and carren clem. This was about a family coping with there fifteen-year-old daughter after she had become addicted to Meth. The book was well written and very intersting to read i thought both ron and his daugther were very open about there story.
started sharon owen revenge of the wedding planner, tonight i am about 70 pages in and so far loving the book, its one of them you do not wont to put down untill you finish it.

have a box full of books to sell, anyone know of a good place to put then, as took a bag of 10 and the local book shop only gave 2.50 for all 10:eek:

I agree with all the people who say that Oxfam is stupidly expensive: fair enought, it's for charity, but their prices aren't far off the RRP! Surely there must be some comprimise, and it's not just books that they price so expensively...ever seen one of their 'normal' charity shops?!

This is a great thread. I agree with people who say that Oxfam is expensive - for everything.

I have a great many well-loved and often-read books on my shelves. I have also cleared out dozens of books (to charity shops) and also to our office swap-shop.

I find that when I do a supermarket shop I tend to consider books as groceries (well done Mr T and Mr A). I am now going to make a note of the ones I want to read and order them from the local library.

I also need to clear out about 20 books that i will never read. they are all hardback autobiographies that i bought. I don't know why - I can't get into these at all.

Does anyone else have a genre they just can't get into? I can happily read anything else.

Your book choice reminded me of 'Go Ask Alice', by anonymous, which we read and discussed in detail in an English class, when I was in my early teens.

I was quite traumatised by the book. A diary of a teenage drug addict and her horrific experiences, which ultimately lead to her untimely death. I'd be surprised, if anybody in that class went anywhere near drugs!
I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

Thanks for all the replies re charity shop prices, really interesting how the prices vary wildly between the various charities and areas. I like buying from the charity shops, cos I'd rather they had the money than say Asd* or the other "big boys" but I agree an element of realism needs to prevail re the pricing!;)
In the meantime I've been using our library loads as their ordering service is brill and free! Reading Two Caravans byMarina Lewycka at the mo, which I'm really enjoying!
Have a lovely day all! :D
